For the rest of the train ride Mark gave me a history lesson on the wizarding world. I was surprised by some of the things Mark told me about. Especially when it came to Harry Potter and the acclaimed dark lord, Voldemort. When he told me about all of the things that took place during the first and second wizarding wars, I was surprised at how well hidden the wizarding world and its problems were from the muggle world.
"So...you said that some muggles were involved in the wizarding wars too...how did the muggle world never know about any of this?" Mark was silent for a moment. "I'm not really sure...my dad is an auror and he was telling me about this spell...I think it was obliviation or something that can wipe memories."
"Wow." "Yep." "Um....what's an auror?" Mark giggled. "Right sorry, I forgot." "An auror is someone who protects the wizarding world from dark wizards and bad people and stuff, they're kind of like the police of the wizarding world." "Wow that's really cool, your Dad's job must be hard."
Mark shrugged then realized his mistake. "Well yeah kind of but there aren't as many dark wizards around anymore because Voldemort was defeated." "Oh ok."
We talked about little things until the train came to a stop. "We're here! We're here!" Mark said excitedly, I could hear him bouncing up and down in his seat. "Really!? Wow that was a long train ride Hogwarts must be really far from London." Mark stopped bouncing. "It is kind of, but the train ride was really fun!" I smiled. "Yeah it was, thanks for being my friend, Mark, I don't really have any where I live." "Really? But you're so nice, how could you not have any friends?" I shrugged.
"I dunno, probably had something to do with me being blind." Mark frowned, even though Vale couldn't see it. "Well that's stupid I think because you're blind you're even more awesome!" He said it so proudly, with such confidence. I could feel tears start to form in my eyes. "Aw Mark that was sweet, thanks." "Anytime! But uh...Vale?" "Yeah?" "People are getting off the train I think we should go." I giggled. "Right sorry, let's go!"
