Decision

Beaded sweat dripped down the side of my face. I pushed the hot, heavy covers away from my body.

The smell of James' cologne lingered on the pillows. Grunting, I sat up in the bed, throwing the blankets off of my body.

I have two choices.

I rush it, and go through with the third phase.

Or.

I wait, and slowly go crazy.

It would be more believable if I wait, but I don't think I can live with myself that long.

I need to make my decision while James is out of the room. It's now or never.

Clenching my eyes together, I tried to map out everything I'd need to do in the final phase.

I'd have to be the one who started kissing James, I'd have to take his shirt off, and grab that necklace. I could slip the key under my pillow or under the bed while he's not looking.

I swallowed the gathering saliva in my throat.

Then what?

I can't just stop there, it'd be too suspicious. James would know something was up.

I'd have to...

I'm going to have to-

"I got you some dinner, come on," James ordered, reaching his hand out to me.

My breathing quickened, as I slowly slinked off the mattress. Controlling the shakiness in my hands, I reached out for him. He linked his fingers with mine, shutting the bedroom door behind us.

"Are you feeling better? I hoped after a day of resting you'd be better," James mumbled, leading me to the kitchen.

"Um, yeah. I'm feeling much better, thank you," I lied, painting a fake smile across my face.

"That's good," James whispered, leaning down to kiss my forehead. "I made you a hotdog, cause I didn't have anything else... I'll have to get groceries soon, but we'll worry about that later."

I sat down on the stool, staring at the simple meal before me.

"Ketchup?" James offered, scavenging through the fridge.

He looked over his shoulder to see me. I watched as his blue eyes scanned my body.

My skin crawled as he bit down on his lips, practically staring at my chest.

"Uh, no, thank you," I croaked, folding my arms over my torso. I covered my body the best I could.

Taking my first bite of the meal, I tried to hold back vomit as I realized he would look at me the same way when I'm getting the key. He'll scan over my body, and I won't be able to cover up.

I won't be able to escape.

No matter what, I'll never escape.

James has already won. Even if this plan does work, I'll live my whole life remembering the horrible things that have happened in this house.

There is no winning.

I already lost.
