ZAYN'S POV

" Growing up I would spend majority of my time drawing or listening to music. I was never a people's person and after the whole incident with Fredrick , interacting with people in a crowd or at a party would make me a nervous wreck. My mum still reminds me that whenever we had guests at home and there would be too much going on I would just run upstairs to my room to have 5 or 10 minutes to myself. I am still the same way even now , an introvert who people mistake as antisocial or a snob." I say with a small smile looking at Allana. Of course she has never let my introvertness affect our relationship. She crept under my skin the moment we laid eyes on each other , breaking the walls which I had raised too high , disallowing anyone to know the real me.I don't regret her destroying the barriers surrounding my heart , infact I am grateful to her for doing so.

Clearing my throat I continue , "For my 13th birthday I  asked my father for branded art items , canvas board , brushes and colors. He promised he would get them for me. My joy knew no bounds because knowing my father he had always kept every promise he  made to me. But he failed this time , he broke the promise he made. A week before my birthday , my mother who was pregnant with her fourth child was rushed into labor 7 weeks earlier than the expected due date. Safaa was a premature baby who did not cry at the time of birth. She was admitted in the NICU for a month because her heart was functioning too slow , making it difficult for her to breathe. My father left no stone unturned in the treatment of his youngest daughter seeking the best medical care and spending every single penny he had. The doctors had given an ultimatum on Safaa's survival however my parents were hopeful of her recovery. Their faith and prayers bore positive results and Safaa was released from the hospital a month later , medically approved to be healthy and fit."

" It must've been a very difficult time for your parents. Tending to an ill Safaa at the hospital whilst taking care of the three of you at home, physically , emotionally and mentally daunting." Allana says in a sad tone.

" It must've been indeed." I reply closing my eyes and wishing hard to take back that fateful day when Safaa arrived home for the first time and the hostile welcome I had offered her. Doniya and Waliya were better accomplices to my parents during that tumultuous period. I was just a whiny , self- centered 13 year old  , merely concerned with his birthday party and gifts. I was angry at my parents for not leaving my ailing sister in the hospital and throwing me a party. Angry at my father for breaking his promise and not buying me an expensive gift which was solemnly a waste of money.

" When Safaa arrived home everyone gathered around her except me. I refused to spare a glance at her , sulking in the corner watching my family showering the new born with attention. Doniya tried to drag me several times to see her but I refused to budge from my place. Eventually my father came to speak to me , trying to convince me to see my baby sister." I say my throat turning dry as I recall the regrettable conversation .
