It felt like a dream, everything was blurred and spinning. It was a storm and was sucking me up into it dragging my mind through the gutter.
When drinks were handed to me, like an idiot, I accepted them with great thanks quenching my thirst with bitter clear liquids, and dark thick ones.
I could have been dancing for hours I hadn’t looked a clock since exiting the Limo. My feet didn’t even feel sore so it couldn’t have been too long ago.
The songs slowed and I allowed myself the chance to slip away out onto the second level passing the empty black throne where the man in all black had been perched for most of the night.
Now though it was only his mask that occupied the seat. I ran my hand along the hand crafted wood outline. The texture through the gloves sent shivers up my arm and down my spine.
Letting out a heavy breath I continued to walk around heading towards the balcony doors on the right side that overlooked a magnificent garden lit with what appeared to be luminescent mushrooms and bugs.
The stone balcony was empty as I stepped out shivering at the cold shock of the night. Inside it was warm and secure, the opposite of what it felt like now.
Looking over my shoulder catching glimpses of the dancers inside. The densely packed dance floor was becoming less and less as the night wore on.
Sweat dripped down the back of my neck slithering down along my spine, I felt warm breath raise hairs on the side of my neck.
It spun me around finding empty air, I was drunk… fantastic. My mom was going to kill me, if the hangover didn’t.
“It isn’t wise for a lady to be alone at night. Especially out from the eye, or earshot, of the mass.” A deep male voice chuckled.
I turned slowly looking at the stone railing at the edge of the balcony. There stood the man in black, he was illuminated by the eerie white wash light of the moon.
“Well I’m not alone now am I?” I challenged him walking towards the edge, “besides, what’s the worst that could happen?” I joked leaning over resting my arms on the edge.
“Aye, but are you among Friend or Foe?” He laughed turning to look out over the garden with me.
I glanced at him and smiled, “Friend or Foe, I still don’t see a problem.”
“Either you are extremely arrogant, or you simply don’t understand who you are among this night.” He sighed letting out a long breath.
He pushed away from the railing and turned walking back inside. I glanced over my shoulder and watched him walk. I turned and decided to follow him, I had cleared my head enough and from the sounds of it the party was back in full swing again.
As I stepped inside I caught him moving down the steps and vanishing into the crowd of vibrant colours, Blues, greens, greys, browns, yellows and gold’s, Silvers, purples, blacks, and whites.
A rainbow of true colours flowing and spiralling as the women danced with the men. Chaste kisses exchanged with the bumping and grinding of bodies.
I felt myself grin and I ran to the stairwell lifting the hem of my dress as I hurried down the stairs. Friend or foe? I had made my decision to dance with the Black dressed man.
I stepped into the crowd and caught him watching me through the fluffing skirts and swaying bodies. I smiled and began to move awkwardly through the crowd struggling to reach him. He turned walking away casting glances at me. His face, He wouldn’t stay still long enough for me to see his face.
