I stood in his bedroom doorway waiting patiently for him to finish whatever the thing was, he had promised his father he would have something written up for him. I offered my help and was shut down before the words had begun to leave my mouth.

We had gone to lunch but it was more of me sleeping through it all, while Damien talked things out with his daddy.  The sun was beginning to set outside the terrace windows which meant that dinner would be soon.

At least that’s why I remembered hearing. Sun setting equals dinner time, sun in the middle of the sky means lunch and dawn was breakfast. Very regular settings.

“What’s the arena like?” I asked him as he scribbled like made onto a piece of paper.

He glanced over at me smirking dryly, “Do you have to ask me now?”

I walked into the room skipping back over to him, I was starting to feel better. All conversation had been on things I could block out, Joko had checked me over and given me the green card, Notari was alright. My little bad girl was in heaven, Damien had no expectations for me, I didn’t have to live up to anything with him. I just had to keep saying yes.

“I’m curious.”

“It’ll be a treat, it’ll help with your appetite.”

I perked up placing my hand over my stomach, “They have good food?”

“Better, Trust me on this. You deserve something after everything.” He murmured dotting the end of the page, “Alright, let’s get going. I have the documents, you, clothes. Good lets go.”

He rose to his feet grabbing the stack of papers he had just spent the last few hours writing out. Then he linked arms with me leading me back around into the drafty hallway.

“What is the Arena though?” I asked him as we walked swiftly down the hallway, the little black flats making soft pat noises with every step I took.

“It’s a surprise, now be quiet.” He snapped sounding annoyed.

Heaving a heavy sigh I looked around the hallway as we walked back down it heading to the other side apparently. We came out into the grand staircase room and found Notari and Skylar waiting with Joko, They turned and looked at us as we rushed down to meet them.

Notari and I both wore light white summer dresses, the skirt came to about mid-thigh on mine but hers hung around her knee’s. Joko wore a floor length blue dress with the Asian style neck, with a diamond peekaboo showing ample cleavage. Her skin had faded to a slate grey and her eyes dimmed to a dark royal purple.

“Just on time, Come on kiddo the old man’s waiting. Boy do we have a feast lined up for you two.” She laughed walking down the stairs.

I glanced at Damien nervously, I had felt like this before heading into the party. I should listen to the feeling, something bad was going to happen I could feel it like a dry ache in my body.

“Notari, Skylar you two will head to the garden and wait for us there. The Arena won’t take very long, if all goes well then we will meet you there is two to three hours maximum.” Damien said before tugging me off again, I leaned back looking at Notari as we walked, her face fell and her shoulders slumped as she watched me being dragged away again.

Just like at the ball, I spun around looking at Damien’s face hardened with resolve, fear burned in my stomach making me nauseous.

“I don’t feel well.” I whispered stumbling beside him.
