Nervous, I was very nervous as I sat in the back of the limo. Notari sat in a very regal position her shoulders back head held high, whereas I was slouched over and twitchy.

Every so often she would look at me and smile encouragingly as if she was cheering me on silently. Why we had to travel in utter silence baffled me. I glanced behind us in traffic to look at the black limousine that followed us. Inside was Laya and Tirana, I was really beginning to regret this.

“If you would breath everything would be so much better.” Notari sighed.

I let out a heavy breath and frowned, I had been holding that in? Damnit, I was getting really worried now.

I wasn’t scared, I was never scared. But the worst case scenarios ran through my mind a mile a minute drawing in unpleasant thoughts.

“Sorry.” I whispered bowing my head.

The little window between us and the driver slid down and he glanced back at us.

“We’re almost at the Never-Knight ball.”

“Thank you.” Notari said before he rolled the window back up blocking us out.

My heart hammered in my chest, shutting my eyes tightly I took deep breaths in letting them out slowly. I was ok, I was alright. Tonight I would be the better Ashleigha, I could do this!

The limo slowed to a halt and moments later the door next to me swung open flooding the small cabin with warm orange light. I looked out nervously and slowly eased my way closer to the door.

A white gloved hand reached out for me, I placed my hand on his so he could help pull me from the car. As I rose out of the vehicle I pulled my mask down covering my face.

There was a long dark red carpet laid out from the edge of the cobble stone street to the massive front doors to a mansion house backed by tall looming shadow trees.

The house was three stories tall and the top two levels were glass walls. There was a front patio like area with a stone roof supported by Greek styled pillars.

Two arching windows sat on either side of the crafted wooden doors. Men in red tailed suits moved forward helping floods of men and women from their cars and leading them to the door.

“May I have your name?” The man before me asked.

He wore a white mask much like the one that the Phantom did in Phantom of the Opera where it covered the one side of his face and his eyes.

“Ashleigha M,” I looked back at Notari who rose from the Doors with fluid grace. Her thin arms and curvy figure made her look beautiful. Her dark ebony skin was in stark contrast to the white shimmering floor length gown. She was lucky she didn’t have to deal with the oversized skirt like I did.

“And who would she be?” He asked holding his hands respectively in front of him.

“She is my Guest.” My voice sounded so regal, so prideful and full of purpose.

Pride bloomed in my chest; I was fitting right into the role. The Man gave an awkward smile shifting the mask on his face as he did so. He gave a curt bow and turned walking towards the door, Notari walked up to my side and with a nod from both of us we followed him.

He looked at both the boys at the front door dressed in similar clothes except their jackets were navy blue so they stood out from the white walled building. They pulled open both doors simultaneously and Notari and I were pushed inside of the building.

She reached out grabbing my arm tightly, The music started with trumpets sounding to one another, the sounds a storm in the background swelled with the trumpets and trombones.
