I passed out sitting on the bathroom floor, my eyes were tight and strained when I finally opened them to the sound of knocking. The door shook softly with each rap. I sat straight up looking around confusion filling my mind.
In the dream I had been having, I was safely tucked away at home curled up on my floor hugging a pillow to my chest while I nuzzled against the blue fuzzy carpet.
Instead I was in a bathroom with a toilet to my left, sink right in front of me, and a curtain to my right which I was guessing was a shower of some sorts. It was different than the other room I had been in. Thankfully, if there had been a bath in here I probably would have had a fit.
“Asha, we’re here. Would come out?” His voice was close through the door.
He most likely was kneeling on the other side, patiently waiting for me to come out. I was about to answer back politely that I was coming out but as my fogged up mind began to process everything I remembered the argument I had started and then run away from earlier. That’s right it was all a lie.
I pulled my knees up against my chest and rested my chin on top. I wanted to go home.
“Asha, open the door we need to go.”
“You need to go.” I hissed glaring at the wall across from me.
I was slightly surprised he hadn’t tried to break in and drag me out, he had to have noticed I had fallen asleep in here. Oh wait! That’s right he didn’t really care, that stung.
“No you need to come out with me.” He growled tapping his fist on the door.
“Wrong, this is your home not mine. I don’t need to be here.”
The door rattled little like he punched it lightly, “Yes you do need to be here, and you’re mine and thus must accompany me wherever I go. This means you have to come with me inside the castle.”
“Go fuck yourself.” I shouted at him.
“Damnit Asha! Open this door, suck up whatever’s upsetting you. You are no longer part of the human world. You no longer have their privileges or rights. You are my mistress and my responsibility. Now get the fuck out here.” He shouted.
Tears welled in my eyes, in a way I understood what he was saying. Part of my brain understood what he said was true in a way. I wasn’t home anymore, this place it wasn’t my home it wasn’t the same as what I knew.
I had to rely on him to survive, but I didn’t know how much longer I wanted to survive as his stand in. As being that drunken mistake match-up.
“Just go away.” I whispered, “Go away.”
“I’m not leaving you alone. If you don’t come out I’ll have to drag you out and that’s not a scene I want to make in front of my father.”
“To bad.”
The door opened behind me and I didn’t move, my eyes ached from crying so much. They were probably red and puffy, I probably looked hideous.
“Asha, it’s time to go.” He whispered rubbing my arms trying to move me from my curled position.
“Go away.”
He sighed shaking his head, “I can’t do that, now please come with me. Let’s go.”
“I don’t want to be her replacement. I’m not Laya.” I hissed my hands curling into white knuckled fists. If he got any fucking closer I would break his nose.
“No you aren’t Laya, You I can stand be around. Now come on Asha we need to get moving.”
“Don’t touch me!” I screamed bringing my elbows back.
