Panic was settling nicely in my body, it had been a while since I hadn’t been afraid. I looked from Codename-Adam to the Knight who still held my hair. I didn’t know who I should be more afraid of.

“Release her, Let my men escort her out. Then I’ll give you my name.” He growled at them his green eyes narrowing.

“Not going to happen, the bounty on your name is too great. Imagine though if I were to bring in you, as a whole. The price could be doubled… No, tripled!”

“I’m not lying his name is Adam!” I shouted at the knight.

He dragged me around in front of him so he could lean down to look into my eyes.

“Why are you so sure? Nobody knows his true name, why would he tell you?” The knight hissed.

We-We-We made a contract, that’s when he branded me. I demanded his name, he couldn’t lie.” I whispered my hands grabbing his wrists.

His hand released my hair and I crumpled to the ground, the knight laughed tossing his head back. Arrogant prick.

“When he’s dead, I’ll give you my brand.” The knight said stepping past me heading towards Codename-Adam.

He stared at me his eyes wide, he was surprised I was trying to help him… Well I wasn’t really I just stood no chance of survival against these guys and he seemed like he would.

“So Adam O’Hallows, are you prepared to meet the dark?” He chuckled crouching down in front of Codename-Adam.

“Eat shit.” He spat back at the Knight.

I looked around and spotted a piece of wood from the wall, it was about my height in length and as thick as my hand span.

Crawling on my hands and knees across the ground I grabbed it spinning around and smashing the knight in the back of the head with.

A feeling of liberation filled me as he crumpled over to his side holding the back of his head. I dropped the piece of wood and traded places with the Knights men.

Codename-Adam nearly collapsed forward his thick black blood was beginning to harden on his skin when I grabbed his arms.

“Are you alright?” I hissed lifting his face to look at me.

His pupils dilated and his jaw clenched, “Do I look alright?” He snapped.

I held his face in between my hands holding him still long enough to look at him.

“You look like you were just beaten. Surprise there, Karma’s a bitch ain’t she?” I sighed shaking my head. His long brown hair was hanging around his face in blood caked strands. He chuckled and shook his head.

“Why don’t you run away?”

“Why do the guys always ask that?” I groaned rolling my eyes at him, in every movie the guy always asks the girl when he’s hurt ‘why don’t you just runaway’ My answer wasn’t as happy as the girls in the movie.

“I don’t know where I am, what’s going on, and my chance of surviving drops just by breathing apparently. As much as I think I hate you, your semi-useful in keeping Notari and I safe.”

“So you’re going to use me?” He smirked shaking his head.

“Call it whatever, you were going to do the same thing to me. You were ready to quiet literally fuck me over. So help me and I’ll help you alright?”

His lips curled up in a dark and very dangerous grin, the short horns atop his head began to stretch and he nodded.

“No more punching me.”
