~ Chapter 16: Ain't Nothing Sweet ~

"The man in this picture, his name is Travis Pen." said Franco, head of my stealth and task force. He was loyal and did what he was told without question. I had no Beta and ever since the war, I been needing to find a replacement. Franco was gunning for the position but he'll have to try harder going against Carlos. Right now, he was showing me pictures taken in his time in Atlanta, shadowing my mate. It wasn't hard finding her after so many years but I must say, she had me all over the country with her body doubles. The last one Franco stumbled across was all the way down in Florida a year ago. I know she must be running on empty right about now.

"What can you tell me about him?" I asked looking at the picture of Kai hugged up with this guy coming out the movie theater. Her skin has gotten darker since the last time I saw her. Her hair longer, I could see right through that fake smile on her face.

"He's a warlock, weak in his powers and works with a demon tamer, named Will and a shewolf, named Nicole. Seems they had a plan to get at the jewel but failed." Franco said showing me the next picture of Donovan and Cameron's men taking them away.

I laughed.

"They won't survive Astrid's torture." I said flicking the pictures aside. "What else?" I asked glaring up at him from my desk chair. He cleared his throat before handing me a set of pictures of Kai and the brothers in the backseat of a BMW off to the side of the road. Donovan between her thighs and Cameron on her neck. Her face... Wet with sweat and tears and her clothes torn and in pieces as she embraced them.

"What else?" I growled setting the pictures in my hand ablaze. The flames wrapped around my hand. I held my hand up as the fire was sucked back into my palm leaving behind smoke. I could feel the heat of it and see the soft glow in my veins as it slowly faded away.

"The boy..." he handed me the last and final picture. I looked at the picture and blinked several times.

"Get out." I said and Franco left without another word, closing the door behind him. I stared at the picture in my hands, going over every detail in his face. His curly hair made me laugh. He looked wild and I could see his lycan in his eyes, eyes like his mother. Tongue sticking out a little as he swung on some swing set in a park. Eyes gleaming as the sun hit them showing the blue glow of his lycan. I wanted to know his name, I wanted to hear it from Kai's lips.

"I want her dead..." My lycan growled coming over me slightly.

"We need her alive, you know that." I responded staring at the picture a little bit longer. Slamming my hands to the desk, I felt my skin burn. My bones shifted under my skin and I knew he wanted out.

"Soon alright, not now..." I growled pushing him aside and he snarled but complied taking the burn of the mid shift with him. I knew he was pissed beyond measures but he'll have to save it for them, for Apollo and Angelo.

I sat at the dinner table quietly. My mind elsewhere as I twirled the spaghetti noodles with my fork. Mainly on what Santiago said.

"They can't save you. They won't love you like I do. I'll kill them both and you know it, and you want to know something else? I know where you are..."

I glanced at the both of them. Miss Maybelline and the guys got along nicely but there was a nagging voice in my head, asking whether they loved me or not. Whether they could really deliver on that promise Cameron told me. About making Santiago really "go away." Promising to never letting anyone hurt me, and for it to never come from their own hands. Of them being incapable of it, whatever that means.
