Chapter 17 part 2

The whole day everyone was loading their carts full of bandages, muskets, fuel and food. Sometimes we'd get breaks and review the plans or just chat with each other. We were to have more breaks since we needed to be well rested and fresh for tomorrow, especially for us titan shifters.

I walked over to Eren who was loading up several fuel tanks. "Eren, please look after Levi. I've been having a sick feeling in my stomach." I sat beside him.

"You're just probably anxious to meet your village again." He made an effort to reassure me that everything was going to be alright.

"You're probably right, but still.."

"Don't worry with his skills he's practically untouchable." he grinned. A solider came up and rang a bell signaling us to come in for lunch. I however went upstairs to my room and feel asleep.

I woke up and noticed that it was dark outside. Oh shit, I slept through the whole day. My superiors are going to kill me!

"Had a good nap?" Levi joked blandly as he rocked his chair.

I quickly sat up, startled to see him there. "I didn't mean to fall asleep, I thought that I could just rest for a bit."

"Doesn't matter, you can just say you were in the infirmary. You are a shifter after all, you tend to get tired quicker."

"What brings you here?"

"I don't need to be protected, I'm a grown man and I can take care of myself." he stood up and sat on my bedside.

"It's just... I've been having a bad feeling about this mission. I keep having this feeling that tomorrow is the last..." I looked down at my hands. From the corner of my eye I saw him lean over, when I looked up both eyes and lips met. He slowly closed his eyes as we both began to kiss each other.

I wrapped my arms around him as he did so at my waist. We both laid back, he broke away and whispered in my ear. "You'll never lose me, I promise that I'll come back." Although his face was dull, I felt warmth in his voice.

I forced myself to wake up when the sunlight hit my eyes. I looked over to my side and found Levi completely passed out.

"Oh God, what have I done?" At that moment I realized that I was no longer pure, a tear slowly rolled down my cheek. I heard Levi groan as he sat up and wrapped his arms around me.

"What's wrong?" he looked surprise to see me crying.

"I'm no longer pure, I could be killed for this. I broke a sacred tradition..." I turned around and hugged him back.

"Don't worry this never happened. Just forget about it." he said in a hushed tone.

I pulled back and kissed him.

"But in a way I don't care, Just knowing that I'm together with you is enough to overwhelm me with joy. If I did get married, the chances of me still walking today is very slim, technically you saved me once again." He cut me off as he cupped my face in his hands and repeatedly kiss me.

"Thank you, thank you for everything." I breathed. Though he did not say anything, I felt his hold grow tighter.

By 8 o'clock, everyone was in the cafeteria eating breakfast. Once everyone had eaten, all troops went to get changed and waited in their groups. Once I had my uniform on I went down to get Hima and Kai.

" What's the matter?" Hima snuck behind me.

"Oh it's nothing."

"Cheoki, I've known you for a long time. I can tell when something is bothering you. Or would you like me to guess for you."

"What are you trying to say?"

"You did something you can't take back. Something that broke our laws especially someone of your status."

"Hima I..."

"Cheoki, please be more careful. I can't see anymore of my family die, please tell me it's not true."

"How did you know?" I looked away from her gaze.

"I've heard many rumors down in the dungen last night. Luckily Kai didn't hear."

"I love him, I love him more than the flowers I pick eveyday. I love him more than the food I get for lunch. I love him, like the love that makes you always want to be with each other. But I feel that we'll never be together."

Hima embraced me with tears in her eyes.

"I know how you feel, it kills me too. Loving someone is not an easy job, people's hearts are going to be crushed from either joy or tragedy. I want you to be wise and cautious. You'll be killed if they found out."

"Who finds out?" Kai ran towards us with his axe in his holster and arrow in hand. "Cheoki, we need another horse."

"Sure thing, just wait here." I wiped my eyes and ran off to the stables. It was very uncanny to meet Levi there as well.

I ran over to him and hugged him tightly as if this would be our last. He leaned his forehead against mine and petted my head.

"Stay focus on your mission and soon enough it will be all over." he whispered.

"Please be safe." I sniffled.

"Since we'll be apart for awhile and none of us will know the outcome of this, after this marry me. I don't want to have any more regrets in my life."

I gazed at him with eyes of shock and joy. I jumped into his arms and lightly kissed him on the lips.

"I'll take that as a yes." he said blandly. "We should get going, we have a long day ahead of us."

I immediately remembered to get the horse and ran back to my group. Once we were all together Hanji came up to me and placed my howler in my palms.

"I remembered you saying how important it was to communicate. Watch over Erwin and youself. Don't forget, don't change fully unless it's absolutely necessary." Hanji smiled and hugged me good bye.

"Thank you Hanji, for everything. In a strange way, you were like a mother to me. I hope to see you again." I smiled back and buried my face on her shoulder.

"Me too."

After saying our good byes, my group was the first to go. I got up on my sadle and took one last look at the town, then at the people watching us, and then at the other group. As I started moving I watched Levi's eyes follow me until I was not longer visible.
