AU where your soulmate knows how long you have to live

Phil memorized the exact date that his soulmate dies. And ever since he knew what the numbers permanently etched into his wrist meant, he worried for his destined loved one.
They were to die on September 9th 2017, which was not a lot of time left. Only a little more than a year.
How was this person to die? Would he die before Phil meets him? What will happen, will Phil never get another love after the death?
"You're worrying again, Phil," Someone tells Phil. It was Dan, Phil's best friend.
"How can you tell?" Phil asks, giving a forced chuckle.
Dan runs his thumb over Phil's creased eyebrows, the tender motion making Phil's heart jump. "You're eyebrows are getting all furrowed again. Is it about your soulmate?"
Phil nodded, astounded at how Dan could see right through his thoughts. I suppose that's what a best friend is, Phil thinks. "It's so soon Dan, a year."
Dan puts a comforting arm around Phil's shoulders. "Maybe, when you meet them, you can you stop the 'inevitable' death."
There were only a few stories of defying the death dates. People who'd figured out who there soulmate was before the death and  prevented it from happening. It was extremely rare and Phil highly doubted he would be able to do that.
"Maybe," he says, and offered a easy grin to convince Dan he was okay. He liked convincing Dan that he was okay, Dan worried about him too much.
Phil realized Dan's arm was still around him. He smiled, and melded his body to fit Dan's hold on him and smiled up at the boy.
"Thanks Dan," Phil whispered, thinking Dan couldn't hear him. But Dan did and said
"You're welcome, you know I don't like seeing you upset."
Phil flushed a light shade of pink. "I know. You're always looking out for me, it's so sweet." Phil's thoughts began to wander again. Was this how normal best friends acted around one another? Like they were each other's guardians? Was Dan just a friend to him? Why was Dan always so concerned about Phil? Phil honestly didn't mind the special attention he got from Dan, it was always nice knowing that someone was looking out for you.
A scary thought crept into Phil's mind. Did he have feelings for Daniel Howell? He looked up at his friend. Dark brown hair, a set but caring look in his features. There was no rules against dating or marrying, but everyone was always looking for their soulmate before their timely demise.
Phil took Dan's hand in his own, lacing their fingers together.
                              "Dan?" Phil asks, softly.
                              "Yes?"
"Do you believe in love before soulmates?" Phil's voice was small, hopeful yet scared.
Dan stopped walking, his eyes widening. "Of course, do you?"
"I...I think so." Phil glanced at his wrist, he had such a short time to find his soulmate, couldn't Dan wait?
"Why this all of the sudden?"
"Never mind," Phil says, his mind set. He was going to wait until after his soulmate passed before confessing his feelings to his friend. He only had a limited amount of time to search for his supposed true love. "I was just letting my thoughts run away with me."
"Again?" Dan laughs, messing Phil's hair up.
"HEY!" Phil says, and then messes Dan's perfectly placed fringe.
