"Watch where you're going, twit!" Someone said, shoving Phil over, so he, and a few of his books hit the floor. His glasses were knocked off his face.

Phil sniffed, wiping his nose with the back of his wrists and bent down to pick up his books. This proved to be a near impossible task as people were flooding into the halls from all different directions. Phil sighed, he was upset but not shocked. He had become accustomed to this sort of treatment from his peers. He simply accepted the fact that he was not popular to well-liked, therefore nobody would treat him as such.

Phil searched for his glasses before anyone could step on them, he couldn't do anything if it was blurry. He saw a blurry hand reach over and hand him what looked like his glass frames.

"Oh, thank you." Phil said, surprised. He wasn't used to this type of treatment. He slipped on his glasses so he could know what face he was thanking. But when he looked up, his eyes widened.

It was Dan Howell, the school's resident flirt and renown popular boy.

Phil was confused, Dan Howell didn't help anyone but himself. Why would he take the trouble to bend down and provide Phil Lester, school's resident nerd and outcast, any aid?

"T-thank you," Phil stuttered, fumbling over his words as he spat out his gratitude.

"You're quite welcome." Dan said and proceeded to give Phil the biggest and sweetest smile that Phil's ever been given in his life. It could melt anyone's heart, the way Dan looked into his eyes and smiled, his dimples apparent.

Not only did Dan beam at Phil, but once Phil had collected up his books, Dan extended his hand towards Phil.

Phil looked at it, cautiously. Was this some sort of trap? How could Dan Howell be so kind to anyone? This had to be a trap. Slowly, he reached his own hand out and wrapped it around Dan's.

Dan pulled Phil up, grinned and then walked off, leaving Phil in his own daze and wonderment.

Am I dreaming? Phil thinks to himself. Surely, it was a dream.

Dan Howell has never, once, proven himself a generous or particularly helpful spirit. Yet, he had just done exactly that to Phil.

"No," he says to himself. "There's no way that he could actually've done that."

Just then, the bell shrills out in a piercing shriek across the halls, signaling to Phil he should be in class.

"Great," He mutters. His science class was all the way on the other side of the hall. He wished he hadn't spent so much time being spellbound on Dan Howell. Then maybe he wouldn't be tardy.

He clutched his books to his chest and sprinted (as best he could without medically killing himself) to his class.

"Ah, Mr. Lester, I'm glad you've chosen to join us." his bitter, old science teacher spat when he walked into the room, three minutes late.

"S-s-sorry M-ma'am." Phil stammered, he wasn't good with confrontation or social interaction in general. "W-won't happen again." His cheeks set on fire when he heard a group of kids in the back, mocking him

"s-s-s-s-sorry m-m-ma'am," teased one girl.

"W-w-w-won't h-h-a-appen ag-g-gain." another jeered.

Phil sunk down in his desk, during his face in his hands. Just great.

And now, he couldn't get a certain person out of his mind.

Dan Howell. The boy who was said to not care for anybody. The boy who seemingly made girls fall at his feet. The boy everyone wanted to be friends with or be liked by him. The boy who had pulled him up in the hallways and smiled the most radiating smile ever.
