I edged myself back into the familiar vent behind Megan. Turning around, I closed it behind me to be positive that the guards would not know where we were. I began crawling as quiet as possible following Megan's lead. Every muscle in my body tensed as I crawled over the vent located on the ceiling. Peering through the holes, I saw the guards marching in sync to their destination.

Megan heard the clank of their shoes and looked back at me with an exasperated expression. I held my breath in anxiousness and breathed out once I heard the sound fade.

"Do you think they will find out where we are?" I questioned as I continued following Megan in the cramped corridors.

"They eventually will. We just need to be faster than them and get to the location as quickly as possible," she replied.

"Do you think we will make it?" I asked.

Megan stopped in her tracks and flipped her head around giving me a confident stare and said, "I'm positive we can make it. We just have to fight back as much as possible. Just remember who is outside of these four walls. We both survived this long, I think we can fend for each other these last few minutes."

I nodded as she whipped her head back around continuing her journey. With every crawl, my heart felt as if it were beating out of it's chest. Each inch I edged was closer to me seeing Alex and my heart felt anxious and excited at the same time.

"What would you say to Matt if you could?" I whispered.

"I would tell him that I love him. I wouldn't ever let go of him, and I would say that we would get through this. I don't think I realized how much I desired him until I lost him, and I won't allow that to happen again. Even if we died together, at least I was with him for the last breath I would take and that alone would be worth it," Megan solemnly replied.

I followed behind her silently taking in what had just rolled off her tongue. Her words pierced my heart as I longed for Alex now more than ever.

"What about you?" Megan questioned.

"I would just want him to know how truly sorry I am. That I didn't mean for all of this to happen and if I could take it back, I would. I just thought that taking off my necklace would show to him how much I cared for him but all it did was cause even more trouble. He made feel wanted and he pursued me the way a girl aught to be. I was just too foolish to admit it. But, I love Alex Porter with all my heart and nothing will stop me now," I stated affirmatively.

A slight tear escaped from my eye as I wiped it off quickly. I couldn't show weakness, I had to be strong for myself, Megan, and Alex. This was our time and we were going to prove to everyone how we felt.

"Now that's the spirit, girl!" Megan began, "Alright, we are heading up to the vent. We should be close enough to the ground to be able to hop safely to the ground. Be prepared, they are mostly split up by now searching for us, so they are everywhere now. Just concentrate because we are almost there."

I could sense joyfulness in her voice. My brain scattered as I saw Megan stop above the vent looking back at me winking.

"Let's show them who is boss," I whispered.

Megan plopped out of the vent gracefully as I heard gun shots erupt in a fury. I braced myself for what laid ahead as I began to throw myself out foot first onto the cool floor. Before I knew it, I opened my eyes up to bright lights and Megan yelling at me to shoot. I held my gun up shooting at everyone who tried to cross us.

The blasts exploded into my ears as I squinted my eyes nailing each person I took out. Megan ran over to me ducking behind a wall. I saw the door open quickly as someone made a dash into the garage. Before I could target them, the door came crashing closed.

"We have to get in there, but we need a badge," I yelled.

Megan looked over at me anxiously as she handed me a few rounds of ammunition out of her bag. I fumbled the pellets in my fingers and stuck them in my pockets.

"Cover for me, I am going in," she yelled back over the loud gunfire.

"Are you crazy?"

"One of us has to get the badge, just cover me Maddie. I'm going," she said sternly.

I propped myself against the wall bracing my fingers around the trigger. Megan went full force into the crowd of guards as I fired as much as my finger would allow. As I was reloading, I saw Megan shoot each guard perfectly as they fell one after another on the ground. I targeted my gun towards a guard located at the end of the hallway as I saw him locking his gun at Megan and a bullet escape.

"Megan!" I screamed in horror.

I pulled the trigger as the pellet flew across the room hitting him straight in the chest. Megan howled in agonizing pain as I fired multiple shots killing the rest of the guards on the hall. I ran from behind the wall seeing Megan crutching her wound located on her abdomen. Her eyes fluttered as I fumbled on what to do.

"Go, you can do this," Megan quietly said.

"No, I can't leave without you," I said sobbing.

"Yes you can or they will kill you too," Megan mentioned as her wobbly finger pointed towards a badge hanging off of a guard's neck.

"No. No. No! I can't leave you. You can't die Megan just stay with me," I said.

Megan closed her eyes for a second and looked up at me bloodshot. I held my hand on her wound trying to suppress the blood gushing from her.

"Tell Matt I love him, I always have and I always will," Megan said as her eye fluttered shut.

"Megan!" I screamed.

No response was heard. All I saw was a scatter of dead bodies and I heard a march coming from the opposite direction faintly. Looking over at the lifeless guard, I picked up his head and pulled the badge off tracing it with my fingers.

"I will make you proud," I said squeezing Megan's arm.

I got up out of my squatting position and ran over to the bulky stainless steel doors. Holding up the badge, the doors opened with ease. I walked through them and turned around staring at Megan's motionless body laying on the ground. Breathing out heavily, I watched as the doors shut.

I ducked behind a wall peering behind it seeing a guard strolling around the parking deck. Looking up, I saw a glass casing holding countless keys. I picked up a pair not knowing what car I had just chosen and stroked them in my hands. Watching the guard, I pressed the unlock button and saw the man immediately hold out his gun ready for retaliation. I aimed my gun straight at him knocking him to the ground hard as I ran out in the middle of the lot pushing the unlock button again trying to find out what car I had chosen.

Suddenly, my eyes locked with a car situated on the far left end of the lot and whispered, "You've got to be kidding me."
