Keith cursed. Why now?
But then, why ever?
Dropping his stuff he bolted out the door to find Lance already running down the hall. Still wearing Keith's clothes.
I guess that's fair, Keith thought. He was, after all, still wearing Lance's pink atrocity. It couldn't be helped though. The Galra were attacking now.
As he raced through the hall he caught up with Pidge and Hunk, Lance's longer legs had taken him further ahead down the hall. Pidge raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything. Hunk shot him a betrayed look.
Keith shrugged at him. He wasn't sure what his problem was.
"Lance! I thought I told you to give Keith his shirt back!" Keith heard Shiro's voice up ahead.
"Op, op, op, op, op! More important issues at hand now, skunk-head!" Lance was saying as the rest of the paladins arrived.
Hunk tried to hold in a giggle as Shiro looked up at his white stripe. "Lance..."
At least he knew a warning when he heard one.
Slipping into their gear as quickly as the could, they reported to Allura in the battle room as fast as they could."What's happening?" inquired Shiro.
"It appears to be a small fleet of Galra fighter-class ships. Most likely they were sent to conquer a planet in area. They don't know we're here yet, but it's imperative that we destroy them before they can do any harm."
"Understood. Team, to your lions!"
After everybody had scrambled into place and shot off, Shiro alerted them over the comm. "Because there are so many of them, we'll stay in lion form for now."
"Aw man! How come?" Lance whined.
"Because that's a lot of firepower directed at one target, you idiot," Keith answered.
"But I wanna form Voltron!"
"Shiro's right," Pidge added. "It will be better to confuse them this way. But it will be chaos, we'll have to work together.
"Oh, great," Keith muttered.
"Keith! We may be outnumbered, but I will send you back if you don't change your attitude. I don't need you putting the rest of us in danger."
The line went quiet except for quiet, high pitched "ooooooh" from Hunk.
"Understood?"
"Yes, sir," Keith muttered through gritted teeth. He hated being disciplined. Especially in front of the others. Especially Lance. Wait, what!?
"Alright. Team, disperse!"
Keith pushed his thoughts to the back of his mind as he focused in the targets. They had noticed their presence by now, and were scrambling into attack formation. Only none of the lions attacked head on. Well, except for the blue one.
Keith shook his head in disgust as Lance plowed through the enemy lines. The Blue Paladin may have found the quickest way to get behind the enemy, but he had drawn the brunt of the firepower in the process. "Idiot."
"Lance! You lion's not built for sustained fire exposure!" Shiro admonished.
"But it was cool!" Lance protested as he showered the rear guard in ice, which, now immobilized, Pidge began to cut into perfect julienne slices.
"Pidge, have I ever told you my theory of how you'd make a fine cook?" Lance flirted.
"Honestly, I think Keith would make the best cook," Pidge remarked as Keith roasted the left flank.
"Great! Now I'm hungry and sick," Hunk complained as his lion sent an enemy fighter careening into several other ships where the impact was met with a satisfying explosion.
"I thought your lion didn't make you sick, big man," Lance remarked.
"Oh, no. You underestimate my ability to get sick. It's like my superpower," the Yellow Paladin moaned.
"Okay, a little less chit-chat on the line," Shiro broke in. "Keith, you've got several on your tail."
"I know!" Keith said a little harsher than he'd meant as he dodged fire while simultaneously weaving through what was left of the enemy lines.
"I got you," Lance offered as he swooped in from behind, showering the enemy in an icy death.
"I don't need your help!" Keith was angry. He could handle this himself.
"Yeah, but there's not many left. The situation is under control."
Looking around, Keith saw that Lance was right. "That didn't take long at all."
"Nope."
Keith hated the way Lance popped his ps.
"That's...a little suspicious," Pidge commented.
"I agree," Shiro said. "Keep alert and scout out the surrounding areas, I'm not so sure we've seen the last of them."
After a final sweep to make sure none were left, the paladins headed back to the castle.
"So, are you guys gonna explain why you're wearing each others clothes?" Hunk asked.
They were back in the armory, removing their space gear. Well, everyone except for Keith and Lance. Perhaps it was an attempt at trying to hide the issue, but all it did was draw more attention. Defeated, the began removing their armor.
But Lance being Lance, had to aggravate the situation. "That's a little secret between the two of us," he said mysteriously as he sent a suggestive wink in Keith's direction.
I'm going to fucking strangle him the instant Shiro leaves.
"Just give me my shirt!"
"Here, darling? But the children are present," Lance acted coy as he slowly and suggestively removed Keith's shirt like a stripper. He even went so far as to hold his hands to his chest and glance down, faking embarrassment.
"Guys..." Shiro warned.
The Blue Paladin threw it to Keith, who had not been ready for that. It caught him in the face and he got a lungful of Lance's cologne. Citrus with a gentle jasmine undertone.
Keith likewise stripped and threw the pink offense at Lance's feet. "Here, take your nasty shirt back!"
Lance's face twitched at the word nasty, but then he scoffed. "It's not mine."
"It was in your closet," Keith reminded him as he was about to put his own shirt on, sniffed it, and thought better.
"Okay, now I'm really confused. First I thought something funny was going on because you left your pants in Pidge's room, but you guys are..." Hunk motioned to the both of them, "together?"
"No!" Keith protested as Lance draped his arm around Keith naked upper body and whispered in his ear loud enough for everyone to hear. "I know it hurts, darling, but I'm saving all this—" Lance ran a hand over his front "—for the ladies."
"Aaand I'm out," Pidge announced, leaving.
Shiro intervened just in time to prevent the Red Paladin from becoming a murderer as Hunk looked on, more confused than before.
"So...you're not together?"
