•chapter 10•
Miranda's POV
"Okay, I'm nervous," I stated while taking deep breaths.
"What? Miranda just relax, you're gonna do fine," Kevin said beside me.
I was currently walking to the locker room with Kevin on my right and Mikaela on my left. It was time to tryout for the dance team and I'm nervous as hell.
"How do you know that? What if I forget the dance, oh my gosh," I freaked out.
I don't have stage fright or anything like that. But I'm about to expose my dancing to a new dance team, and I just want them to like it.
"Miranda, stop I've seen your dance videos and you're amazing at what you do. Hell, you're even better than me!" Mikaela yelled.
We made it to the locker room and Kevin said he'll be waiting out there. I quickly changed into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt before grabbing my phone.
"You ready?" Mikaela said after putting her shoes on. Because I'm doing a lyrical routine, I don't need shoes so I'm gonna be wearing socks during the dance. I put on my converses and nodded at Mikaela's question before walking out of the locker room to meet Kevin.
"Miranda, just take deep breaths and think positive, you're gonna do great, and they are gonna love you I promise," Kevin told me. His words were definitely calming me down but there was still a little part of me that was nervous.
I continued to take deep breaths as he opened the door to the gym.
"What if I mess up? Or freeze? And what if they don't like the way I dance?" I asked out of nervousness.
If that happens then this will go down in history as the worst day of Miranda Kents's life.
I took my spot on a mat on the gym floor as Kevin sat down in front of me. I started stretching to prevent any injuries for myself during the routine.
"Miranda stop worrying," Kevin said.
"I'm not," I replied, while stretching my arms out.
"Yes you are, the look on your face says it all," Kevin spoke.
Wait, what do I look like?
"Miranda, stop stretching," Kevin said.
"But I have to warm up," I explained.
"Okay, just look at me," Kevin demanded.
I sighed and turned to him so that I was looking into his eyes.
"Now close your eyes," Kevin ordered.
"Why?" I asked.
"Just do it," he stated.
Here he goes, quoting nike.
I sighed and closed my eyes.
"Okay now where do you like to go when you wanna relax?" Kevin asked out of the blue.
"Uhm, the beach!" I replied.
"Okay, now picture yourself at the beach, doing your routine. Dance like nobody's watching, okay? It's just you." He explained.
So that's what I did. I pictured myself on the beach with the sun shining on me. I was doing my lyrical routine, and I was having fun. The sand was in between my feet, and the faint sounds of the waves from the ocean could be heard from where I was moving.
I opened my eyes and smiled at him.
"Okay, I think I'm ready," I said more to myself than him.
"You got this Miranda," He motivated.
"Miranda Kents, you're up next," A girl from the table called out. I think that's Lauren but I'm not sure.
I stood up from where I was sitting and walked in front of them. Before dancing, I plugged my phone into the speaker nearby.
"Okay so what will you be dancing to?" Lauren asked.
"It's called Don't Let Me Down, by the Chainsmokers. Uhm, it's a lyrical routine." I explained.
"Great, let's see what you got," Kristen replied. There were two girls, one on each side of her, waiting for me to dance too. They were seated behind a long white table.
"Thanks," I stated before I started the music.
Once the song started, I began the dance routine. I closed my eyes and pictured myself on the beach like Kevin told me to. I completed a bunch of turns and kicks. I put a lot of emotion into the dance and kept my feet pointed. I did a combination of leaps and turns across the floor.
When the song ended I did my ending pose. I opened my eyes to see everyone in the gym clapping and cheering, including the girls from the table, and Kevin from the bleachers. I took a huge deep breath before getting up and standing in front of Lauren and the girls.
They all looked shocked and that's when the nerves started to kick in.
Did I do bad? Was it enough?
"Wow," Lauren managed to say. A grin slowly made it's way to her face. "That was amazing," She squealed.
I let out a huge sigh of relief and returned the smile.
"Where the hell did you learn to dance like that?" the girl on Lauren's left side yelled.
Wait am I suppose to answer that?
"Uhm, at my old school," I replied.
"That was great! Nice job Miranda, we will get back to you," Lauren smiled.
I quickly said thank you before leaving their sight. I saw Kevin and immediately ran up to him and wrapped my arms around him.
"Thank you," I smiled. He was hesitant at first, but then slowly wrapped his arms around my waist.
"Miranda you were great!" He complimented.
"Yeah but that's only because of you! I pictured myself at the beach! I did it!" I yelled, like a little child on crack.
"You are very welcome. Your performance was beautiful, I couldn't take my eyes off of you," he whispered in my ear. I pulled back and smiled at him.
"Thank you," I grinned. His arms slowly left my waist, and I kinda wished they didn't.
"So what now," He asked.
"I'm actually gonna head to the shop now, wanna come? " I asked.
It's better when you have company.
"Sure, I'll meet you there, I'm just gonna go get my stuff," he replied.
"Okay," I called out before heading to my car.
I hopped in and started the engine before pulling out of the parking lot.
Caramel frappucino, here I come.
