Chapter 16

"Steve I- uh," she tried to get some words out but none seem to come out. Steve covered his face with his hands as he walked his way back to the couch.

"I was stupid to think I had a chance with you," frustration evident in his voice, hands still covering his face. She didn't know what to do, tell him what she feels? Let him be? Definitely not an option. Natasha moved closer to him but he was still covering her face.

"Steve," she called him, voice softer than ever, he finally dropped his hands to his side and looked at her. She took his hands into hers as she said, "Steve, I really care about you I really do. It's just that I have this terrible experience in love and you saw yourself what it did to me. You're a great man, Steve, but I don't deserve you. We can't be together, we were never meant to be together," her green eyes stared into his blue.

"But why Nat? I thought-" Steve asked confused by her words, but unfortunately Tony cut them off at a very very terrible timing.

"I found the thing you asked me to find about just now, Rogers," he said. Steve walked towards him and he gestured Nat to follow as this matter also involves herself.

"I know who assigned Sharon to assign Natty here to interrogate Barnes."

"Who?" she asked.

"Herself." Nat didn't saw that coming, seriously Sharon? What have she done to her that she decided to do that to her. Tony projected his Stark Pad into the holograms, and slided a few slides with his hands.

"This is your super secret files that only Fury can access, but from what I found, this file was accessed by Carter, Sharon on the day Barnes was found, right Jarvis?" He said while pointing to the files projected.

"Yes, sir," Jarvis replied.

"How can she do that? This is a serious violation," Steve said.

"She hacked the system," he simply replied to Steve. Then something seem to be connecting on Nat's mind.

"Skye," she whispered.

"What?" the two men asked.

"Last time, Sharon mentioned of this girl Skye, her friend to us," she looked at Steve, hoping he'll remember that time the three of them was chatting and Sharon tried to push him off to Skye,"who is very good at hacking. She must've gotten help from her." Anger is evident on her and Steve's faces.

"It must be her." Tony told them. Then, the both was already stomping out of the room without saying a single word to Tony.

"Hey! A thank you would be nice!" Tony shouted behind them.

Steve blasted through the doors of the STRIKE division, Natasha right behind him. People in there knew damn well who they were, and knew better to give way and not get in trouble with the two especially with those fuming looks on their faces. Further inside the place, Sharon noticed their entrance.

"Steve! Nat! What are you guys doing here?" she greeted them, Steve was right in front of her but Nat stepped forward so she was directly standing right in front of her. She gave her a deadly look and then SMACK! she slapped Sharon in front of her teammates. Sharon looked up and gave a surprise look, lucky for her Natasha didn't strangle her.

"Did you have fun digging into my personal information behind my back?" She asked, managing to give her a signature smirk, which was intimidating in many ways.

"I don't understand what you mean," she lied.

"Oh? You know what I'm talking about, you opened my files that had everything about me and Barnes in it," she was silent," didn't you?"

"Y-yeah, yeah I did, it was me! But I told you and Clint because I thought it was the best for you to meet him again!" she tried to convince Nat, but that only enrages Steve.

"You think it was the best, huh? Who are you to get to make that decision for her, you didn't know what that interrogation with Barnes did to her, do you? So, you better tell me why did you, without permission, accessed her files, and tell her to do that?! You do not have any authority to do that! You are nothing like your aunt," Steve said, she was silent for a while, fear was all over her face.

"I thought that, if Natasha gets to meet her old love then I would have a chance," she finally said.

"What chance?" Steve asked his voice loud and commanding.

"A chance to be with you," she said softly before escaping and running away, embarrassed that some of her friends were there watching the whole thing. Steve and Natasha was taken aback by her reply, Natasha saw that coming though, she could see how Sharon looked at him every time they met. Satisfied she got her answer but also at the same time baffled by all the things that happened that day, she too rushed back to the building.

Sipping on her drink on the kitchen alone made trains of thought race across her mind. James, Fury giving her a choice to get out of the Avengers, Steve's confession, and Sharon's shocking actions. What should she do with James? Ignore him? Pretend he never showed up again? What should she do with the Avengers? Leave because of all this conflicts going on and other division critics of herself? What should she do with Steve? Tell him he loves him too? Tell him she doesn't love him? Pretend nothing ever happened? What should she do with Sharon? Forgive her? Doesn't seem like an option, she trusted her but Sharon completely shattered that trust.

"Natasha?" Steve asked while walking into the shared kitchen, "what's wrong?" She pressed her lips together and tried to shrugged it off. Steve knew better, and kept looking at her. She sighed and finally spoke, "a lot of things is happening recently, and I cant stop thinking about all those things. James, Sharon, you." He moved closer and hugged her, putting her glass down on the table, holding her head close to his chest and kissed the top of her head.

"Steve?"

"hmm?"

"I lo-" right that instance Steve pulled away, and held her face in his hands and said, "don't. If you feel like it's not the right time for you to say it then don't. I'm not forcing you to," she was about to say something, but then decide it was better for her to agree with him, so she nodded her head as Steve pulled her back into a hug. They stayed like that for a while, Steve kissed her forehead once more and whispered, "I got you Nat. I got you."
