Chapter 34 – If He Doesn't Believe You Then It's His Loss

Hunter Ashford

"You do realize that you can't just drink all your problems away right?"

Kayla approached me as I took another swing of the beer bottle that was in my hands.

"It works so I'll carry on."

That was a lie because no matter what I did, the picture of Alyssa and some random guy at a random party dry humping each other was stuck in my head.

"You can't just jump to conclusions without speaking to her."

Right now I was completely numb, the careless shrug of my shoulders adding to it. At this point, I was ready to just push Alyssa away like Owen told me to.

"I'm done."

Kayla sighed next to me, grabbing the beer bottle from my hands and taking a sip herself.

"Alyssa isn't Sofia. You know that and I know that there's a part of you which doesn't beli – "

"Shut up!"

She looked taken aback. I never shout at her but something came over me when she mentioned Sofia.

"Don't bring that manipulative bitch into this. It has nothing to do with her."

"It has everything to do with her, you blind asshole! You still aren't over the fact that she stepped on your supposed-to-be-hard heart and left without a second glance. Cut the big boy act and start being an actual human. How fucking long are you going to act like you're completely fine with shutting everyone out. You care about Alyssa and the only reason why you're drowning yourself with alcohol is because you realize that you're already too far gone to walk away from her now."

There was a few seconds of silence as her words sunk in and she almost jumped when I gripped the half-empty beer bottle and flung it at the tree, watching the glass shatter into pieces.

"I just..." I ran a hand through my hair, remembering how bad of a state Sofia left me in, "I can't do this again."

Kayla's phone rang and she picked it up, her face morphing into a range of expressions as she let out an exasperated exhale when she hung up.

"I need to go. Talk to her, Hunter! Ask her what the hell is going on."

It's been a week since Hunter left me speechless in the hallway.

Am I over it? Probably not.

Is the rest of the school over it? Yes.

It's actually quite surprising how quick people move on from drama. Touch wood.

Today I realized that my birthday had actually passed sometime during this month. I've never been one to celebrate my birthday, not because anything tragic happened on my birthday but just because I see it as any other day and I haven't celebrated my birthday since I can remember so why start now?

The pictures had been passed around school for a few days before people just turned a blind eye to them. I didn't get many people approaching me and interrogating me about what happened. Speaking of, the girls were adamant on finding out how the pictures were made and who made them, the only problem being that they had nowhere to begin so I don't have much hope of them figuring it out.

If I didn't have to see Hunter with his new "girlfriend" every day in school then maybe I'd be a bit more neutral about the whole situation. To be honest I'm quite surprised that my jealousy hasn't been the cause of someone's death yet. Pretty much everyone has noticed that I'm been much less bubblier and happier since it all happened and I feel pathetic when I say that even after a week I haven't processed the fact that someone went out of their way to accurately create a false image of me cheating on my boyfriend whom I had only been with for approximately two weeks. On top of that I can't seem to fathom how nobody saw someone practically dropping envelopes in everyone's locker and even managing to tie one onto Hunter's motorbike.
