A/N – And here you have it, a final icing on the cake for Hunter and Alyssa's story.
Final Chapter – The Wedding Day
Hunter Ashford
May 17th 2019.
I stare at the date on the calendar in my phone, knowing that after today it will be so much more than just a date.
It's 9 in the morning and my heart is going fifty shades of crazy just thinking about Alyssa in a wedding dress.
The soft knock on the door breaks me out of my thoughts and Owen walks in with a brown envelope in his hand.
Please don't be something Cold Shadow related.
"How are you feeling?"
His warm smile and slap on the back reassures me that he's here as my dad and not as Owen Matthews.
"F*cking excited. I've been dreaming of this day for so long."
He pulls out my desk chair and positions it in front of me before sitting down.
"I've got to admit, she really is one in a million. I couldn't have asked for anyone better for you and the way you two love each other is one of the purest things I've ever seen."
I smile, "Do you want a tissue?"
"Shut up. I actually came here to give you my first wedding gift."
He smirks when I look at the envelope worriedly, "What kind of wedding gift comes in a brown envelope?"
I open it and stare at the first few words, before looking back at my dad in disbelief.
"The resignation form kind," He chuckles at my reaction, "Cold Shadow is no life for a husband and if we're looking into the future, it sure as hell is no life for a father."
"But you still do it."
"My point exactly."
His facial expression changes and his eyes soften almost to a look of sadness, "I may have adopted you but I don't deserve to be your father. And a massive chunk of the reason why is because I run Cold Shadow. I never intended to put this organisation before you and I want you to know that you come first."
He looks down for a second and if I'm not mistaken, he looks like he is fighting back tears.
"Alyssa came to visit me after New Years to lecture me about my parenting skills."
That's my girl.
"And I didn't realise how much my job was affecting my relationship with you and Daniel until she explained it to me. I didn't even think anything of it when I asked you to overlook Cold Shadow during Christmas. Why didn't you say anything?"
"Because if I said no, you probably wouldn't have been able to go home. You've given me more than I ever thought I'd have, the least I could do was give you a week off."
This is the most vulnerable I've ever been with him and it comforts me to know that I can be.
"Hunter you're not indebted to me. I love you because you're my son and you shouldn't have to feel obligated to pay me back. Promise me that next time something like that happens, you'll tell me how you're really feeling."
I roll my eyes with a smile when he holds his pinky finger out but link mine with his anyway, "I promise."
"You better sign that and hand it in before I change my mind. I'm literally losing my best man with this resignation."
