Chapter 58 – You Might Want To Use The Coldest Temperature Possible
Alyssa Shade
"Hunter, you can't do that. That's cheating."
I rolled my eyes with a smile, watching him fall into the river in Temple Run and use a gem to revive himself.
"You didn't lay out any rules," He glanced at me with a cheeky grin, "so as far as I'm concerned, this is allowed."
I let him continue playing and averted my gaze to the window. The pilot had already announced that there is an hour left until landing and I couldn't contain my excitement.
My gaze glided over the land far below us. The night sky allowed lights to illuminate the cities and states we flew over and I was mesmerized, to say the least.
"I can't believe I'm going home." My smile widened. I couldn't take my eyes off the view outside the window.
I turned to Hunter, caught off guard by him pointing his phone camera at my face.
"Don't! I hate you." I laughed nonetheless, holding my hand up to cover his camera.
"Oh this is definitely going up as my new home screen background."
I leaned in to look at the picture, watching him set it as his background. It looks decent if I do say so myself.
I looked up at him, taking his hand when he dropped his phone into his lap.
I intertwined our fingers together and pulled his hand to my lips, kissing the back of it.
He returned the kiss on my forehead before reaching his arm around me to pull me into his side.
"Try and get some sleep. You look tired and we woke up pretty early."
I hummed in agreement, closed my eyes and inhaled, relishing in the smell of him.
It's been two weeks since the last bump in the road in our relationship. Two unbelievable weeks of smiles, laughs and a whole load of fun. Hunter's been spending a lot more time with my family – learning to cook with mom, discussing forensic psychology with Mark and also listening to funny stories from Mark's time in the Navy. He's also grown quite the attachment with Aaron. His mission is to try and get Aaron to say his name before mine, even though I keep telling him that the poor boy can't speak yet.
"Do you remember our back and forth pranks when we first met?"
Hunter's soft voice in my ear brought my out of my thoughts and I smiled at the memory.
"Yeah. I don't know why we stopped."
"I think it's because things got quite tense between us after our first kiss."
I laughed, "You mean you had a bitch fit after it."
"You told me you didn't mean for it to happen literally a second after I pulled away whilst I was still processing how amazing it felt."
Heat rose to my cheeks, "It's not my fault. I was scared of getting hurt, especially when you were being so caring and genuine whenever we spent time together. I didn't want to fall deeper for you so I thought pushing you away would work."
"Oh really? And how did pushing me away work out for you, hmm?"
That took me back to the day that changed my perception of him. A day I'll always hold dearly in my heart. A day I'll never forget.
