Chapter 32 – Stay The Hell Away From Her

Third Person Perspective

"Owen is calling you."

Hunter looked up from his phone to see Kayla standing in his doorway. She was dressed in a sports bra and black sweats. He knew she had just come back from a hard core training session from the way her breathing hitched as she spoke and the shine of sweat on her face.

"Did he tell you why?" He asked, dropping his phone and heading to his wardrobe to pull on a shirt.

"No but he seemed quite frustrated."

Confusion was evident on his face as he gave her a look and walked past her, heading towards Owen Matthews' office.

"Hunter, Take a seat."

Owen's tone gave nothing away regarding what he wanted to talk about. The only thing Hunter managed to acknowledge was the sharpness in his voice – Owen only spoke that way when he was angry.

For a second there was complete silence as Hunter watched the man open a desk drawer and pull out an envelope. A thick flow of uncertainty creeped into his body when the contents of the envelope were laid out on the desk for him to see.

"This is exactly what I told you to refrain from when you walked into this office three years ago."

The tone of anger slowly but surely morphed into one of worry and concern.

Owen didn't miss the way Hunter's eyes darkened when he saw the pictures on the desk. He knew that this girl was important to him and truth be told, Owen himself didn't want an innocent girl like her to be dragged into something she didn't ask for.

Hunter stared at the pictures one by one, trying to decipher how they could have been taken and where from. The sad thing was that he could recall everything that happened between him and Alyssa with one look at a picture. Every smile she offered, every sarcastic remark she fired at him. That's how badly she had him and it was almost impossible for him to pull away from it.

"You need to stay away from her if you want to keep her safe because it took my men seconds to track her down and find out everything about her. Do you honestly think no one else can?"

Hunter stood up, clenching his fists with anger at Owen's invasion of her privacy, "You had her followed?!"

"Would you rather have that or see her end up dead?"

"Stay away from her, Hunter. There's no compromise in this. You need to stay the hell away from her if you want to keep her out of this."

Alyssa Shade

"How was your flight?" I asked Mark whilst pouring him a glass of orange juice to go with the pancakes I made him for breakfast.

"Boring. There was an old woman next to me who was calling her son literally every 20 minutes."

"Hey, don't hate. Some people have a profound love for their children."

I glanced at the clock, sighing in relief when I saw that I didn't have to get ready for school for another 2 hours.

Mark's plane landed an hour ago and he didn't want to call us because he wanted to surprise my mom. It's kind of hard to surprise someone when they're fast asleep in bed.

The sound of footsteps echoed through the kitchen and we looked at each other, Mark holding a smirk. Soon enough, my mom was stood frozen at the doorway, gaping at her husband as he casually took a sip of orange juice.
