Minutes after, Jack regained conciousness. His head ached a little, but that wasn't the problem. His staff was broken and he lost Rapunzel again. He felt like giving up... which what he was planning to do.
He sat upright and laid his back on the ravine's walls. When he placed his hands in his pockets, he took something out. His baby teeth.
His memories. Might as well check them out, he thought. Jack took a breathe in and a breathe out. He tapped on the colorful diamond-shapes on one side of the case.
Suddenly, it was as if he was teleported someplace else. Everything was vibrant and grass covered the floor. Trees stood high and the sun's bright rayes peaked through their leaves. There was a boy and his little sister, mother and a few of the sister's friends. The boy was playing chase with his sister and her friends. He even climbed up a tree and hung himself upside down on a single branch.
"Jack, get down from there!" His sister said in worry while her friends cheer him on.
Then, night came. They surrounded a bonfire and, with two branches, the boy pretended to be a reindeer of some sorts. He was trying to make the kids laugh... and his little antics worked.
After, it was wintertime. The lake behind their house had just had frozen and the boy's sister was so excited because he promised that she would teach her how to skate when winter does come.
"Be careful out there," their mother said caringly.
"We will, mom," he said as his sister dragged him out of the house.
However, as soon as she was on the lake with her skates on, the ice cracked under her feet.
Her brother was just across her. He had a long stick which curved at one end beside him. "It's okay. You'll be fine. Just look at me," he said calmly.
"You're lying!" The brunette said fearfully.
"Have I ever tricked you?" The boy said as he tried to stand up from getting the stick.
"Yes! You always play tricks!" The girl shouted.
"Okay," he laughed, "But this time, I'm not. Don't be scared. We'll have a little fun instead! It's as easy as one..."
The boy lifted one of his feet, making the ice under his foot crack a little.
"Two..."
He jumped to a diferent position, closer to his sister. He even pretended to get off balance, causing laughter from his sister.
"... Three,"
Their distance was now good enough for his plan. "Your turn," he said.
He started counting softly while his sister moved a bit. This little movement, made the ice crack larger. On three, Jack snatched his sister Emma with the stick's curved end and swung her to the other side of the lake.
Emma was safe and they thought Jack was, too. However, as soon as he stood up, the thin ice cracked and he fell deep into the dark, cold waters of the lake. The last thing he saw was the moon, glowing brightly.
Jackson Overland died that day. But on that day, hundreds of years later, Jack Frost was called back by the Moon.
And he was back into the arctic wasteland. Overjoyed, Jack leaped up and excitedly paced back and forth. "I was... I was alive! I had a family! I had a sister! I saved her!"
Then, realization donned upon him. He looked up to the Moon, glowing as bright as it did centuries ago. "That's why you chose me," he said, "I'm... I'm a Guardian,"
