Oh. So cute all of it.
Still, I hate them all. They made me stay there to see it all! Even after I had finished my part!
And that thing about changing a bit the speech? I pretty much made my own there. And no one noticed, I guess. Except for Nathan, of course. But the writer inside me came out and there was no way I could make it stop.
I'll transcribe my speech, since I have my part of the video, because Olivia filmed it all with her new phone (I've filmed her part and Nathan filmed the family part).
"Hello, my dear fellow Genovians. It's an enormous honor to be talking to you for the first time as the Reigning Princess, next to my husband, Prince Michael, celebrating the joyous festivity of Christmas and our first New Year.
This year, I want to bring to you a message of hope and love. Or, more exactly, of hope of the victory of love. Western Europe has met hate after a lot of time. But, let me say it, we should enjoy our lives. We should embrace each other. Peace and understanding start with little gestures.
The people of Genovia have shown that we have a big heart full of love to offer. Even though we didn't really accept them in the beginning, we've thrown away our prejudices and we've accepted the refugees of Qalif with love. That's how we need to act in these times. We mustn't deny the problems of those who are in trouble. We must go out there and help them! Help them, support them and fight next to them! Because if we were the ones in need, we'll expect that too, so that's what we're giving them.
Christmas is a time of sharing and loving. The Bible says so, so that's what we're doing. But, most importantly, Christmas is a time of hope. Christians all over the world, during centuries of history, have seen Christmas as a sign of salvation. The savior is born! Good will defeat evil!
And to all those who don't share this faith, share the love and the hope with us, because peace and happiness are what every human wants, not only Christians.
But let's not stop the day Christmas ends! Let's go all year round!
Show your family, your friends, your neighbors, your acquaintances, and even your enemies, that you love them, as love is the only thing that will save us.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!"
Okay, so this sounded like a preach. People will think I stole it from the Pope or something.
Well, I guess I got carried away a little.
Anyway, Olivia was great at her very first speech. She was so cute, with her sky blue dress.
Looking at her I realized it wasn't so bad to let her know she's a Princess, even though I accidentally broke the news worldwide.
She has changed a lot in these months. How is this even possible?
I didn't even notice Grandmère next to me, because I was thinking about all of this. When I had finished recording her speech, Grandmère surprised me.
"She's changed, hasn't she?"
"Uh, yes. A lot."
I said I was surprised, because it's the first time she has talked to me since she yelled at me last Monday.
"I mean, she adjusted so well, so much better than I did. She has really the grace of a princess. She's a born princess. I'm just a disaster. I've always been." I complained a bit. Yet, I knew she wasn't going to shoot a nice comment, not even a compliment. Or so I thought.
"You were like that, too, you know?" I looked at her, completely stunned. "You also changed a lot in a little of time. Well, you had spent summers here in Genovia and in France and Italy, always in castles and with important society people. You had a little bit of advantage."
"Come on! You always said I was clumsy and a disgrace and not royal at all!"
"I did. You ARE clumsy, and you can be quite embarrassing sometimes. You took your time to get what this was all about. But still, the people of Genovia saw from the very first moment who you were meant to be: an amazing Princess, smart, funny, but still responsible. I can't believe you never noticed. The world loved you from the start, and I always knew you were going to turn out well."
"But you're always complaining about me! Even now, twelve years later! You won't let me breathe!"
"I know. I'm sorry about that. I guess I'm used to be bossing around and I didn't see how Michael and you and your friends and your parents have everything under control." She sighed. "You turned out like this because of all my complaining, you know? If I hadn't been like that, would you have made such an effort?" I wanted to say something, but I realized it would be better if I just shut up. "No, you wouldn't. Mostly because you, Mia, love a challenge. And you like it better if I'm the one who's being critical about you."
"Of course! You know I appreciate your opinion so much. Well, when you're not acting like a lunatic." She looked actually hurt. "I tend to be surrounded by lunatics, such as Lilly, so, no offense about that."
"Right." She just rolled her eyes at me. I can't recognize her anymore. "I'm sorry about everything. You'll be a great Mom, and after that, an amazing Princess, and the best thing that's happened to Genovia in a long time."
I'm amazed. Someone changed my grandmother this week. I think the woman standing in front of me is a clone they made to make me feel better. There's no way GRANDMÈRE is saying these things to me.
"I love you, Grandmère." And I hugged her, just to make sure she's still the old.
And yes, she is. She smells like her electronic cigarette, sidecar, dogs, and Chanel nº5. A disgusting mix, actually. Plus, she didn't really hug me too much. She's let me go very quickly, and made sure nobody had seen it.
I can barely believe all of this, but afterward, I've washed my face (thank God my makeup is waterproof) and I'm definitely awake. And I'm not drunk, and I want to think I don't have any hallucinations yet.
Oh, they're calling me to go downstairs to eat. Yes! Finally, I get to have lunch with my family.
