Okay. So Grandmère and I had a sweet moment yesterday. But she's crazy.

It turns out she's organized a huge Christmas Eve party. Mom is really upset.

"We had agreed we were having a little family dinner! No Christmas party! Just close family and friends!"

"But, Helen, I've only invited family. All the guests are related to us."

"Yes, but you still have invited a hundred guests! That's too many!"

You could see that Grandmère drives Mom crazy. She was shouting and looked enraged at her.

"That's the least number of guests I could invite."

"Clarisse. We were supposed to spend Christmas alone, just the four of us, you, the Drs. Moscovitz, Lilly, Tina, Boris and maybe Mia and Michael. That's if the kids aren't born yet."

"Well, if Amelia doesn't want to join us, she doesn't have to. But at least we have to be here with our guests."

I decided to join the discussion here.

"Hey. What were you saying of a hundred guests on Christmas Eve?"

"Oh, Amelia. Tell your mother this isn't that much."

"Who have you invited, Grandmère?"

"You know, the closest family. Your cousins from Monaco, Sebastiano, your cousins from France, from Italy. Not too many. I think a hundred is a reasonable number, given the circumstances."

"Yeah, right, Grandmère. So... Can we still blow off everything you've organized?"

"Of course not, Amelia! Don't be so dramatic, for God's sake!"

"Well, I guess we are having a little party on the 24th..."

"Yes, we are."

And then, she left, without saying a single word to my Mom, who had this furious look in her eyes that makes me shiver.

"Mom... You heard her. I just will come to say hello and go back to my bedroom. Or maybe, if Tina, Boris and Lilly aren't invited, we'll go to Tina's apartment to have a little dinner. And on Christmas Day we'll have a family lunch, okay?"

"It was going to be our first Christmas Eve as a family, all together." If I hadn't known her for so long, I would have said that she was about to cry.

"Well, it doesn't look like we're having a family celebration soon. At least, not with Grandmère around here." She let out this little, adorable laugh.

"Yeah..." She hugged me. "Are you okay?"

"Yes, I'm doing great." I was going to leave for the Bedroom again, but then it hit me. "Oh, Mom. Today Michael and I won't be joining you for lunch. Tina, Boris and Lil are coming over. I already talked to the staff to set our table in the little Dining Room."

"Okay, honey. Love you." She kissed me on the cheek and headed to Dad's office. I guess to complain about Grandmère's party.

Hmm... I feel like taking a little nap before lunch.
