Chapter 28 - Our Beautiful Baby

I've entered this book into the 2016 Wattys! I'm not sure if I'll be successful in anything but it's worth a shot!

*** 40 minutes later ***

Russell's POV

I was outside the delivery room pacing back and fourth while listening to Y/Ns painful moans and screams. Y/N told me that she didn't want me to see her in this condition, hense why I wasn't in the room. Y/Ns mum, my mum and Hannah were in there with her and her dad, my dad, Dan and Kerry were outside with me, sitting on the blue plastic chairs.

"AGGHHHHH" Y/N screamed from the room making me wince as I paced faster.
"Russell for God's sake will you sit down you're making me nervous!" Kerry said. I sat down on the free seat, fidgeting nervously.

Suddenly, a nurse burst through the door, grabbing everyone's attention.
"Russell?" She asked looking around.
"Yes?!" I responded, standing up quickly.
"Y/N wants you to be there with her"
"Really? She told me before that she didn't want me to be there"
"Well she does now"

I ran into the room and up to Y/Ns side, holding her hand tightly. I said comforting words to her as she panted heavily with a few drops of sweat trickling down her exhausted face. She had been in labour for a while now so hopefully this would be over for her soon.

Finally the midwife said "Okay Y/N the baby is ready to come out so you only have to push two more times."

Hannah tapped my back making me turn round while she said "I'll comfort her, you go watch your child".
I nodded at her appreciating her offer. Hannah took her hand and I walked to the end of the bed where the midwife and both of our mothers were.

"Okay Y/N one big push"
Y/N pushed while groaning loudly, one hand gripping Hannahs, the other on the side of the bed. I watched as the baby's head came into view.
"OH MY GOD" I screamed, feeling horrified but also happy. Mine and Y/Ns mum laughed at my reaction.
Luckily my mum lightened the room by saying "MURRR" making us all laugh.

"Okay Y/N we can see the head. Now give me one last big push"
Y/N pushed again as the baby just slid out leaving me speechless. We all breathed a sigh of relief when the baby started to cry. They quickly cut the cord and carried the baby to the side to wash the excess off of it and weigh it.

I froze there in disbelief - I was now a father! When I snapped out of my thoughts I saw Y/N with the baby in her arms. I paced up to her slowly and nervously and sat on the side of the bed.
The baby was sleeping, wrapped up in a cream blanket.
Y/N looked up to me and smiled. We both had tears in our eyes.
"Say hello to our beautiful baby girl". She gently placed the baby in my arms as I cradled it carefully. She was so beautiful, like an innocent angel. I felt overwhelmed with happiness and felt a tear trickle down my cheek. I looked up at Y/N with my tear filled eyes and smiled, kissing her lovingly.

I looked down at our baby, and back up to Y/N and said "I've got my two precious girls .... and that's all I need".
