A Pyrrhic victory is a victory that inflicts such a devastating toll on the victor that it is tantamount to defeat. Someone who wins a Pyrrhic victory has been victorious in some way. However, the heavy toll negates any sense of achievement or profit.

The day was just starting to arrive when I was walked (with a complete army of doctors, nurses and therapists behind me) out of the door of Pilotsview. It was somewhat cloudy, but the sky was a beautiful mixture of pinks, purples, and blues. The wind blew strongly against the now turning leaves and stung my eyes, creating an excuse to let few tears escape from them.

I was free.

I squinted slightly as the wind was still blowing strong. I could barely make out the distorted, blurred shape of a vehicle in the distance. I almost didn't see the people getting out and walking toward me.

"Mom! Dad!" I belted. I sprinted across the Tarmac and almost felt myself floating. My whole family started to come into view-my mom, dad, Jay, Madison and Zack. My parents were crying while my siblings tried to hold the tears in. I reached my mother first and practically fell into her arms.

"Oh Tyler," she sobbed into my hair as my father collapsed into the embrace.

I melted into the warm fabric of my mother's coat and the smell of her subtle yet glorious perfume-something I hadn't smelled in a long time. I felt my dad squeeze my shoulder, and I cried even harder. I heard the sniffles from my brothers and sister.

They still cared.

They still loved me.
