I stared at him for a while. Soaking in his features. His mousy and soft looking hair, slicked to the side as he always had it. His electric blue eyes that I inherited and I smiled.
"I missed you too Dad," I whisper and run into his arms. "You've been gone way too long."
"I know. All work. I promise I'll make up to it." He says and we sit in the booth. My mum slides in next to him and Chris slides next to me me. Opposite them. We ordered our usuals and sat there laughing and joking like how it used to be. The waitress brought the food and before we knew it it was over.
"I have a lot of explaining to do." My dad says and looks at my mum.
"We. We have a lot of explaining to do," my mum corrects him.
"And you little missy, are in huge trouble," Chris points out.
"It's not a big deal Chris," I shrug.
"Yeah. There's a ransom over our heads. We're wanted criminals. No big deal." Chris mutters and rolls his eyes, crossing his arms in front of his chest. I snort and turn my attention back to my parents who are looking at us amused.
"Charlotte, Christopher." My dad says and we look at him. He sets into an explaination of how his great-grandfather started the agency and it was passes to to his son which was then passed down to his son and which was then passed on to my dad. When I raised my eyebrows at that he explained that it was because Uncle Jeff didn't want to have any part in the business and he was too 'weak willed' so my grandpa passed it down to my dad before he passed away. Dad then went on to explain that mum had been working there as one of their top agents and they were set to a mission together and that's where they fell in love and conceived us. They came back and told grandpa but he didn't take it too well so dad eloped with mum. Grandma explains to grandpa and then they came down to meet us. Few years later grandpa died and dad took over the business. Cut short to now. Dads offering me a job.
"What?" I say after calming myself down from choking on my milkshake.
"It's sudden, yes, but I have seen you're abilities and I want you to come with me. You can finish this school term and we can go. Only, if you want to." He explains. I run a hand through my hair and let out a frustrated breath.
"No ways. That's crazy. Mum why aren't you telling him this is crazy?"
"He's right Char. This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and plus you've always wanted to see the world. You can go around the world and help make it a better place by getting rid of all the bad guys."
"Dad, is your business even legal?" I roll my eyes at Chris.
"Yes, my great-grandfather Andrew Lucius Hadley, a Senetor started it up. Of course it's legal."
"By get rid, you mean kill right?" I reply to my mum and she opens her mouth but nods instead.
"Lottie, you don't have to give me an answer now. Sleep on it, tell me next year for all I care, but think about it."
"How about I tell you no and we can't all forget this happened? I've done one stupid thing in my life and that almost got me killed. What you're asking me to do will much more dangerous. Mum how are you even agreeing to this?" I groan.
"Charlotte," my dad whispers. "I just want you to be with me and after seeing that video I was so impressed I can't even begin to explain how proud I felt when I told everyone at Ops that was my daughter."
"Dad, I'd love to be with you too. You know that, it's just that..." I trail off.
I don't even know what I'm saying.
"Pumpkin, think about it. For your dad. Please?" He says, giving up and I nod.
"Okay. I'll tell you when I've made a decision."
"Okay," he replies and I see a hint of a smile.
