The smell of chicken cacciatore wafts through the house as I help mum set the table. The sound of Dad and Chris cheering at the tennis match playing on TV echoing through to the dining room almost feels like it's already thanksgiving.

"Dinners ready, everyone on the table in 10 seconds or Char and I will eat it all!" mum shouts and sits down giggling. I smile at her and sit across from her. Dad and Chris come in talking about the tennis match and settle themselves down in their respective seats.

"CHARLIE GOT ASKED OUT ON A DATE!" Chris blurts out and mum and dad stop to look at me.

"Oh my God! No way!Is it goop boy?"

"Who is goop boy and why is he asking you out. You are only 16 young lady you do not need a boyfriend." Dad says sternly and I roll my eyes slightly, a small smile creeping on my face.

"Okay you guys calm down. It's NOT a date." I look at Chris pointedly.

"Sure, two people that like each other very much going out together, alone might I add, is not a date." Chris says and roles his eyes.

"Christopher Edgar Hadley please shut up!" I groan. "We're just hanging out and trying to test things. Definitely not boyfriend level, yet." My parents look at each other and shrug, continuing to eat. We eat in silence for a few minutes, only speaking to pass this or that.

"Charlie, love. Have you thought about the offer I made you? Not that I'm rushing your decision or anything, I just want to know if you've thought about it. I am leaving for California tomorrow morning so it would be nice to have a reply or to know that you've thought about it." Dad rambles. My thoughts go back to the lunch we had at the diner and my dad's job offer to me. Being an assassin for a secret agency. Not a job I ever imagined being offered.

"I have thought about it and I just have a few questions. Not much but there are some things I want to know before I make a final decision." I reply, slowly and look at Chris for his approval. He nods and I look at my dad who looks thoughtful.

"Of course honey you can ask us anything," my dad replies and looks at my mum who nods at me encouragingly.

"Well this job offer, at the diner you only mentioned me and not Chris, and tonight as well. Does that mean Chris won't be a part of the agency?"

"Well it depends if Chris wants to work in the agency he is free to. After all he is my oldest son and traditionally the business should be passed down to him, Chris?" Dad replies and we all look at Chris.

"Oh no, killing people? Not my cup of tea. Watching spy movies sure but not killing people."

"Christopher you don't need to work as a field agent, I know for a fact we need a few more desk agents at the agency, I'd love it if both my children worked with me. And your mother could come back too, we could all work at the agency together she could help me run it, only if you want to." He replies and looks at each of us. Chris nods and looks thoughtful and my mum holds my dad's hand, giving it a small squeeze.

"My next question, I have zero experience, well the only experience I have was a rookie planned almost failed operation to  dig up dirt on a former enemy. I got stabbed in the process and I killed a man."

"We have a 6 month training program, intact I've already got the perfect mentor in mind for you. As for the killing, you did me proud, with no experience using a gun you easily took out a man with years of experience im the killing department, Charlie, you truly are a little champ."

"If I do say yes, when do I start?"

"Ideally we want you ready before you turn 18 so that you can legally start the job but we can start you earlier you're a natural."

"I think I have my decision then. But I want to sleep on it and I want to talk to Chris, in private."

"Of course love, anything." Mum replies.

"Take all the time you need." Dad replies.

Chris and I help mum and Dad clear the table away and we go upstairs to my room to have our little private chat. I close the room door and lead him to me little walk in wardrobe and turn on the cooling system. I close the door here as well, just incase, and indicate for Chris to sit on the floor.

"So, you want to take the job?" Chris asks and I nod slowly.

"I've always dreamed of becoming a spy. Remember when we were younger at Nannas old Edinburgh house and we'd play that spy game in the yard. You'd be the evil guy and we'd shoot at each other with our little green and orange water guns. This is everything we've ever dreamed of." I say and hold his hands. "I'm not going to do this without you Chris. I want it to be your voice on my spy ear piece when I'm on my missions, as much as I hate your annoying voice because you are my brother and I love you, so much. I wouldn't want it any other way and if you want out, then so do I. I'm not taking the job, not if it means being separated from you." I say and hug him really tight.

"Well that was a gay speech. But I love you too little sister, always have, always will. And if this is what we both want then I'm ready to tell mum and Dad we're in." Chris says and I smile.

"Me and you Eddy, forever."

"Me and you Lottie, forever. Well now that his sappy moment is over, shall we go down and inform our dearest parents?"

"Yes, we shall." I reply and we burst out laughing. Happiness radiating from both of us knowing that finally we'd be able to live together as a normal, well almost normal, family.
