"You're going to have to die,"

"Mum. Dad. Charles and I have made a decision." Chris says to our parents who are cuddling up to each other in front of the T.V. I roll my eyes at the name Chris gives me and we head over to them. My father's head perks up and he smiles.

"Whatever your decision is, just know we are proud of you anyways." He says and my mother nods in agreement.

"We have decided to join the family business!" I say happily and my father clasps his hands together.

"This is wonderful!" My mother exclaims and I smile at her.

"Well that gives your friends Melissa and Anastasia an even better reason to join!" My father announces with a hearty laugh and I raise an eyebrow.

"You what now?"

"I offered them a job. Melissa was with you that day and she was fantastic on the field. As for Anastasia, well, I already know about the people she works for and the things she does. In fact, she's the one that approached me for the job." He explains and I nod.

"There's one important thing that you need to know about before we officially announce your arrival at the agency." My mother starts and looks at my father. There's a silent message passed through them and my father picks up what she's trying to say straight away.

"In order for you to go undercover-without raising suspicions as to where you and and what you're doing-you're going to have to die." My father says casually.

"What!" Chris and I exclaim in unison. We make eye contact and have a silent agreement that our parents are officially INSANE.

"You're not actually going to die." My mum says, rolling her eyes as us. "The rest of the world just has to believe you're dead." She then goes on to explain how every agent, field or desk, is 'killed' before they officially start working to reduce suspicion. Agents go on missions that may last months and that can cause problems with the outside world if they start putting pieces together.

"One main problem of having so many of you being recruited is how we're going to manage to kill all of you without raising suspicions." God if someone were listening to my parents right now they would send them packing to a nuthouse.

"Is this you guys asking us for ideas on how to kill teenagers without raising suspicions?" Chris asks and I smack his arm. "What?!"

"Why are you always saying dumb things?" I half ask half tell him.

"I'm being realistic, you just think it's dumb." He rolls his eyes at me and I make a face at him.

"Seriously you two?" My mum says to us and rolls her eyes at us. "And yes, Chris is right. We are asking for ideas." This makes Chris smack me back and give me a triumphant HA!

"I have an idea." I say after a few seconds. All eyes turn to face me. "Okay it's going to sound crazy but it will work. We could be going on a end of school 'road trip' together and then get into a car crash. Our bodies will obviously be taken to the hospital and there you guys can take us to the morgue where we can pretend to be dead." I explain and my dad looks thoughtful.

"Actually to make it even more believable, we can inject each of you with a substance we've used a few times before. It momentarily slows your heart to a point where it seems like you're dead." My dad says and my mum interjects.

"No. It's dangerous, Ed. We can't risk their lives."

"Cora, please. It's never failed before, why would it fail now."
They go into a mint argument and Chris butts in.

"Mum. There is no way anyone can actually die from this. The antidote stops it." Chris says and I give him a puzzled look. My parents are both impressed that he knows this and my father takes one look at me and decides to shed some light.

"Once you've been injected with the dose of tetrodotoxin, your heart rate and rate of respiration slows to a level low enough for you to be pronounced medically dead-"

"-that, can only last for 10 minutes or you will actually die." My mum points out blankly.

"Yes but you will only need 5 minutes to be medically examined as dead. When you're being shifted to the morgue we can give your heart a jump start with an AED and everything will be alright." My dad points out. "We've done this over a dozen of times. It works. No one has ever died. And I seem to recall that was how you died, wasn't it Cora?" My dad asks my mum. My mum stays silent.

"Well, now that we have that covered. When do we begin training?" Chris asks.

"As soon as you're done with this school year."
