"Thanks Drew." I said as we pulled up in the car outside dance plaza. I took a look at the building and took a deep breath. This was it.
"Now listen Chlo, this is your chance to shine and I know you will. You go in there and you dance your heart out. It doesn't matter what whoever watched the music video thinks. What matters is how you feel. And you need to put that feeling into your dance. I love you sis, good luck." Drew said.
Drew always had a way with words and since we were younger he would be the support I needed. He would get me through good and bad times and help me through my problems.
"Thank you Drew, I'll see you at 1." I said as I shut the car door.
He pressed the car horn and drove away. He always did this no matter where he dropped me off. That was his weird way of saying goodbye. Even though it was weird though, I loved it.
I hauled my dance bag over my shoulder and made my way into the building. Usually when I went to dance plaza it would be with a group of other girls for a competition or a workshop. This time I was alone and nervous.
I walked up to the receptionist who was on the phone at the time.
"Please hold," she said down the phone and looked up. "Music video?" She asked me.
"Yes," I nodded.
"Sign in here then make your way to changing rooms D, after that head to studio C." She instructed. "Have fun." She said before continuing her call.
I filled in the sheet and made my way through the corridor which led me to changing rooms D. I opened the door expecting to find dozens of girls getting ready for their staring role as an extra in the music video.
Really what I found were three gym bags and some shoes on the floor. I figured I must have been one of the first here if there were only three of us.
I dropped my bag down and began to get ready. I didn't know what style we were doing so I just put on my ballet shoes hoping they would cover it. I pulled my hair out of the French plait from the night before revealing puffy beachy waves. I looked in one of the mirrors, parted my hair, and plaited to small sections back so the majority was down but the worst bits were out of my face.
I took off my joggers and hoodie revealing my leggings and a crop top which I usually wore for dance. It was quite tight fitting and more like a sports bra but I found it good to dance in just like most of the people at my studio.
I looked in the mirror again and readied myself. I could do this.
After bracing myself for what I was about to do I headed for the studio. I desperately tried to remember what studio it was but I couldn't remember. I looked at the signs on each door. One read "junior workshop" which I knew wasn't me so I moved onto the next.
It read "YB music video rehearsals" which I quickly assumed was me. However I didn't know what YB meant.
I headed in to be greeted by three other girls who were stretching. Their heads quickly snapped to the door as they saw me come in.
"Hi!" They all shouted.
"Hiya, it's nice to meet you, are there only three of you?" I asked.
"Yeah, we thought there would be a lot more of us too!" The middle girl replied.
I went and sat down with them and began stretching my splits.
"I'm Chloe by the way!" I said as I introduced myself. I was extremely nervous but desperately trying to hide it.
"I'm Taylor." The one girl answered. Taylor had black frizzy hair tied up in a high pony. She was extremely pretty and wasn't wearing a whole lot of makeup, she only wore a bit of mascara and lipgloss.
"I'm Niamh," the next girl said. She had brunette hair and had a gorgeous natural tan. She had her hair in a slick bun and wore a layer of natural makeup just to cover up minor imperfections, much alike me.
"I'm Gigi," the final girl replied. Gigi had brown and blonde ombré hair which she had left down however scraped the top layer into a top knot.
"It's nice to meet you all," I replied.
"So has anyone got any ideas who YB are?" Gigi asked.
"No idea, my dance teacher told me they weren't big in the music industry or dance industry but very big in another." I said.
"Not big in the music industry? We are filming a music video!" Niamh laughed.
"I'm so confused," Taylor giggled.
We were chatting about what we were expecting and sharing everything we knew when our thoughts were interrupted by another girl walking in.
"Hi guys, my name is Seana." She said as she came and sat with us. Seana had long ginger hair which was held back out of her face by a headband. She began stretching like the rest of us.
"Apparently I'm the last one here! I thought there would be more of you!"
"Last one?" I asked. "But there are only five of us."
"Maybe there are five members in the band?" Gigi suggested. "I'm Gigi by the way!" She said to Seana. We all introduced ourselves and continued stretching telling Seana everything we knew.
Time flew and quickly we approached 10am.
"Just me who's nervous?" Taylor said as we sat waiting for the people to come in.
"I am," Niamh said which was followed by a chorus of "and me," from us all.
We all sat and waited when a tall older lady entered the room. She looked very professional and smart, definitely as though she wasn't going to be doing any dancing.
"Welcome girls, my name is Jenna, I'm the manager of this project. Today you will be taking part in rehearsals for our new music video. After today there will be one more rehearsals and then we will be shooting. After that we may have a few live performances on television shows and things but we will get to that when the time comes."
We all just kept smiling each other because it finally felt real. We were about to be introduced to the people we would be dancing for. They were stood right behind the door.
"Before I welcome the boys, would you mind standing in height order for me, that way it is easier for James, the choreographer, to pair you up."
We quickly stood up and shuffled into a line. Only when we stood up did I realise I was actually the smallest.
I had always been small so I wasn't surprised when I was at the end of the line. Gigi was the tallest even though she didn't look it when we were all stretching.
I also realised she said pairing up. Did this mean we were dancing one on one with the band? It scared me a little bit because I had mainly danced with girls groups or solo but I knew I would just have to go for it head first.
"Ok ladies, thank you, anyway, I will hand you over to James and the band."
