Chapter 10: Bring Him Around Town
(Part I) (Short chapter)*Chris's POV*
It's 9:30am and I'm up earlier than I usually am. If I told you I wasn't excited about today, I'd be lying. It felt like today was taking forever to get here. I do my morning ritual and head downstairs to get some breakfast. I settle for a bowel of cereal, because I didn't want to lose my appetite in case I take Kamaal somewhere to eat at. I finish eating and my little sister comes in the kitchen rubbing her eyes and makes her way towards me. I pick her up and sit her on my lap. She taps me on my shoulder and points towards the freezer, signaling she wanted her favorite chocolate chip Eggo waffles. When the waffles pop out the toaster, I prepare them for her and sit them on the table. My mom walks in the kitchen.
"Good morning baby." She says as she kisses me on my forehead
"Hey mom. You're up early. Do you have to work today?" I ask her as I pour another bowl of cereal.
"Oh no sir, I let Tiffany cover my shift at the hospital today. I was thinking we all go to the park today."
"I wish I could ma, but I already made plans. I'm showing my friend Kamaal around town today."
"Kamaal?" She says as she takes a sip from her coffee mug. "Are you talking about that fine ass dread head that was standing on my porch last night?"
"Ummm yeah. Mom how did you know that?"
"Well I was upstairs on the patio reading, but y'all were talking so damn loud that I decided to stop and be nosey."
"Wow...you, Trey, and Myra really need to respect my privacy." I tell her as I laugh.
"Nigga you don't pay no bills. You have no privacy in my house. But have fun baby."
"I will mom."
"Oh yeah, do me a favor and work on that stuttering, that shit ain't cute boo boo."
My mom walks out the kitchen laughing her ass off. Ok, I stutter when I get nervous, shoot me. I walk out the kitchen and search my closet for something to wear. My phone vibrates and it's a text from Myra and Trey.
Myra Text: Have fun on your "date" Chrissy!!!!
Trey Text: Have fun bruh. I hope you don't choke
I close the text messages and put my clothes on. I keep replaying on my head that it's not a date. I finish getting dressed and I hear a knock at the door.
"Chrissy, your friend is here!!!" My mom yells from downstairs
I take a deep breath and pace around the room a few times
"It's not a date...it's not a date..." I keep telling myself. I get myself together and head downstairs....
