"Bell! Dammit, I said put all the groceries up, not just the cold stuff!" I called out to him, knowing he was probably in the office, on the computer.
Some times, living with your boyfriend could be the best thing ever, sometimes, not so much. I put the rest of the groceries away, thinking back on our relationship.
This last April was three years for us, two years of us living together. We moved in together right after I graduated high school. Bellamy and I were both working and we were both in college, our schedules pretty tight. But he still managed to blow me away, repeatedly. He had made candle lit dinners, brought me on picnics, even covered the apartment in roses before. I swear I couldn't live him more.
But he could frustrate the hell out of me. Like today, when he neglected to out up dusty percent of the groceries. I rolled my eyes, smiling. I decided to go peek in, see what he was doing.
I opened the bedroom door and I swear I loved him even more. He had tacked a black blanket over the sun cancelling curtains, his headset was on, his eyes focused as he coached on the keyboard, and he was chewing on his lip. My heart did a summersault.
"Bell?" I called, not sure if he would hear me. He looked up and smiled at me.
"One sec," he said, winking at me. He typed for a few more seconds and then clicked a few things before he stood. "What's up, Princess?" He asked as he walked towards me and embraced me.
"I was just wondering what you wanted for dinner tonight. Oh, and also to nag that you only put up half of the groceries."
"I know, I'm sorry. I was going to go back and finished but I just got wrapped up when this idea popped into my head and I forgot."
I laughed, my heart beating against my chest. "I really love when you get passionate about something," I kissed his cheek. "Are you working on that coding for the game?"
"Not today. This was something else. You bought that huge salmon fillet, do you want to invite everyone over?" He asked.
"Yeah, sure. It's Friday after all. Can you invite everyone while I start dinner? I'll get ready while it's in the oven."
"Of course. I'll get the wine out. I don't want a crazy party tonight, just chill. The group parties too much," he chuckled.
"That's true. I feel like we're being adults, Bellamy," I laughed. He kissed me while I washed my hands.
"I'm going to mass text and shower. When I get out let me help," he walked away.
I wanted to go all out tonight. I barely ever cooked for our friends because they usually wanted chips and beer. I wanted to do a nice layout tonight. I made the spinach and artichoke and slathered my salmon. I put it in the oven and diced potatoes and put them on to boil. I made rolls, covering them with butter, garlic, and cheese. I slid them in with the salmon. I got a smaller pot for the peas and one for the corn. I got out Bellamy's favorite Oreo pie crusts and mixed up a cheesecake. The whole bottom layer was Oreo and fudge and I decorated the top with whipped cream and Oreo crumbles. I put it in the freezer to set and took my apron off that Bellamy had gotten me for Valentine's last year.
"Hey baby, what do you need me to do?" Bellamy entered the kitchen again and I could smell his soap.
I smiled. "Keep an eye on everything. The oven needs to be cut off in ten minutes and then you'll need to turn on the peas and corn to heat them. I won't take more than ten minutes, though."
I changed from my shirts and tank top to a maroon dress. It was a one shoulder that stopped above my knee. It twirled as I checked myself in the mirror. I did my make up quickly and threw on jewelry. I slid on my black pumps and went back to see Bellamy biting his nails by the refrigerator. He was so beautiful, standing in khakis and his gray button up.
"I'm back," I announced.
"Jesus, Clarke. I swear everyday you amaze me. You're so damn beautiful." I blushed and kissed him.
"I was thinking the same thing about you."
"Everyone will be here in about ten minutes. I'm going to grab the wine."
I pulled the meal together within ten minutes, pleased with how it all looked and smelled. I checked on the cheesecake just as Bellamy opened the door and let everyone in. Wick and Raven walked in followed by Octavia and Lincoln.
"The others had to bail, they said they had work and had to study," Octavia said as she hugged me.
"Damn, it smells amazing in here," Raven said. "Why do you ever order pizza?" She laughed.
"Well, everybody grab a plate," Bellamy said. I kissed him before we fixed our plates.
"Oh my god," Wick said as everyone ate. "Raven, if you don't start cooking like Clarke I'm going to leave you and make Clarke and Bellamy adopt me! This is amazing." I laughed while Raven rolled her eyes.
"They can adopt me with cooking like this, and when you refuse to put your clothes in the laundry basket, you just throw them beside it!" Raven countered.
"That's nothing," Octavia said. "Lincoln has never hand washed a dish in our place. I needed the measuring cup and asked him to wash it and he tried to turn on the dishwasher! Like hello, just wash it, I need it now!" We all laughed while Lincoln sighed.
"You leave make up everywhere," Lincoln said. "I found eye liner in the couch. I've found eye shadow in the closet. I actually had an entire bottle of foundation in my shoe the other day!"
"If you cleaned out our couch, I swear you'd find forty earrings," Bellamy said. "Clarke has lost one earring of almost every pair I've bought her."
I nodded. "I can't even defend myself," I laughed. "That's so true. But, for you to be such a neat freak, you never put things where they go! You dust and vacuum and bleach the tub, yet when you read a book, you leave it on the couch. You leave your notes all over the place."
"Okay, yes. I'm a very clean yet Nessy person. I get that. But, have you ever looked at your desk in the bedroom? I swear there is four hundred different types of make up and you literally wear none of them. You wear powder and eye make up. I can't even remember the last time you used a bottle of foundation, yet you own a million of them."
"Oh and you have room to talk?" I laughed. "When's the last time you cleaned out your closet? I haven't seen you wear even a quarter of the clothes you own!"
"You annoy me," he smiled. He reached under the table and sat a black box beside my hand. "Annoy me forever, already." I gasped as he opened the box. It was the ring I had fallen in love with online like two years ago.
"Ho-how did you know what ring I wanted? I haven't even had time to think of a wedding in two years," I wiped my face.
"What do you think? I made Monty come over and hack into your wedding stuff you saved online."
The tears rolled slowly down my face as Bellamy got down on one knee and slid the ring onto my finger. "Clarke, will you marry me?"
I nodded through the tears. "Yes!" I stood up and Bellamy wrapped his arms around me.
"Whoooo!!" Cheers and applause rang out, reminding me that we weren't alone.
"You planned this whole nice dinner on purpose."
Bellamy nodded. "I wanted the four closest people here and I wanted it to be nice."
I kissed him. "I love you."
"I love you, too."
