THE HEMMINGS TWINS

CHAPTER 35

LILIA P.O.V

19 weeks pregnant

Dax had been awake all night crying with a fever. I had rocked him for nearly four hours before he finally fell asleep. He was up at 5 am again and I gave up trying to get him to sleep. I got myself showered and dressed while he watched t.v and drank some watered down juice before I brought him over to the doctor to see what was going on.

"No, Mama."

"We have to go to the doctor to see what's wrong." I said as he cried. His fever hadn't gone down and I  was getting nervous about how high it was.

"Okay." He mumbled and when I looked in the mirror, he was sleeping. I silently prayed that he stayed asleep while we were at the doctor so they could figure out what was wrong with him without him having a tantrum. I carefully picked him up to make sure he was still asleep.

"Dax Clifford." I said to lady at the front office who looked through the computers to find his name.

"The doctor will be right with you." She smiled at me as I sat down making sure Dax was still asleep. The doctor finally came out and called his name. I followed behind her to a room where she checked his fever and his ears and throat.

"It looks like he has strep throat." She said. "I'll write him a prescription." She said writing it down on a piece of paper and handing it to me. "He should get lots of rest and lots of fluids." I nodded as I lifted him off of the table and rested him against my stomach and chest.

"Thank you." I said going out to pay for the appointment before heading over to the pharmacy to get the prescription. I sat around waiting for an hour just to get the prescription before finally being able to bring Dax home and lay him on the couch for him to relax. He whined when I laid him down and he clung to me. "Want to take the medication that will help with your throat buddy?" I asked. Dax had never been against taking medications like most kids did.

"It bad?" He questioned.

"No, it taste like bubble gum." I said getting out the right measurement for him to take before putting it in his mouth. He swallowed it and agreed it tasted like bubble gum before laying down and I gave him some juice to help calm him down. The dog jumped on the couch to help him relax and to cuddle.

I had called my mom and told her to bring home some soup and popsicles for Dax to help with his throat and I also told Karen what was going on

I had called my mom and told her to bring home some soup and popsicles for Dax to help with his throat and I also told Karen what was going on. All Dax did all day was either sleep or watch t.v. I was fine with what he was doing but he hadn't eaten anything all day.

"Dax, come have some soup." I said and he automatically got all upset and started crying.

"I no want to, Mommy." He cried and it broke my heart from the pain he was in and I couldn't help him.

"Alright I'll bring it to you." I said sitting next to him on the couch. I scooped some of it onto his little spoon, feeding him as he sat up next to me. "Are you doing okay baby boy?" I asked and she shook his head while he leaned into me. He opened his mouth for me to put more soup in while he watched tv.

I took a few pictures of Dax, tweeting them out that I had a sick boy on my hand and to send him some love. Luke called right away to check on him saying that he sent over a gift and it should be here within the next few days.

"How are you doing? How's baby girl?"

"I'm good. She's good. Moving around a lot more than she used to." I answered. "How's Michael?"

"He's okay. He's been sober for the last few days. Which is good." Luke said and I nodded even though he couldn't see him.

"That's good." I wasn't sure what else to say. Me and Luke don't talk much anymore and it sucks because he used to be my best friend. I used to tell him everything.

"Yeah so I sent Dax a present. Should be there soon. But I have to go. Love you." He said hanging up before I could even say anything back to him. I put the phone down cleaning out Dax's bowl before feeding myself.

"How is he doing?" My mom asked touching his head to feel how hot he was.

"He's very sick." I said eating. It was times like this that I wish Michael was around. So Dax had another parent to help make him feel better but I knew that I was on my own and I felt I was doing an okay job.

"Is Dax okay?" I asked Luke.

"He has strep. He's on medication. He should be better in a few days." He said as he messed around on the guitar. I nodded as I sat down. "Why do you even care?" He asked.

"He's still my son." I said.

"You don't act like it." Luke said. At the time that I told Lilia that I didn't want to be apart of my kids life, I was so drunk I have no idea what I was doing and then all of a sudden I signed these papers agreeing to sign custody of Dax over to Lilia and I was now without a child.

"I fucked up, okay, Luke? I'm sorry I hurt your sister and ruined her life. I don't know how to explain why I did it. But I did." I said.

"It's whatever, Michael." And for the first time in a long time, I felt hurt for Lilia's sake.

*LILIA P.O.V*

After dealing with Dax laying around crying all day for nearly a week. I asked my mom if she could watch him while I went out with some friends. It wasn't that I was annoyed with Dax but I needed a break and since he was feeling much better I had decided he would be okay staying with my mom.

I was halfway through my pregnancy and my friends were enjoying buying me as many little girls clothes as they possibly could. I had asked my mom not to throw me a baby shower and both her and Karen decided to listen to my request and instead helped me buy everything I needed for the baby. With Dax still sleeping in a crib I needed to buy a whole knew one.

"Have you heard from Michael?"

"I don't care about Michael." I said to Scarlett as we looked around at clothes. "Dax was sick for a week and he never once asked if he was okay. Or if I needed something. I hate him." I said.

"How come you haven't been on another date with Cole?" She questioned.

"Because I got pregnant he probably think's it's weird."

"No he doesn't." She said as she threw some clothes in the carriage. "He asked me why you haven't been up for going on a date."

"I just got a divorce. I'm not really ready to just hop into a relationship with someone." I answered shrugging.

"He really likes you. He tells me all the time." She said and I blushed. "He doesn't care that you have kids." I shrugged. "He wants to buy a house with us. Like an actual house. Us three and your two kids."

"That's a lot of rooms for one house." I said and she nodded.

"We can get one with a finished basement. I think we should look. We want to help you raise these kids." She said and I nodded. Even though I was down one person to help me raise these kids, I had so many more people who were more than willing to help me raise these babies. I would never be able to pay them back for everything they've done for me and everything they're going to do for me.
