Irony flodded the moment as Jenna entered the car, ending her phone call with the peck of a button.
"Who was that?" He asked craining his neck to steer clear of the pedestrians as he pulled out the parking lot of the hotel.
"It was Kristen, she called and said that she's getting her new daughter today. She said I'd be a great adoption center to go to."
Tyler's eyebrows arched up in surprise. She tilted the phone over to him as he caught a glimpse of the address. "Oh really? That's great! It's not too far from here either."
It honestly didn't take even two blinks and a half bottle of vodka to be met with the building they came across.
The room capacity suddenly shrank as they entered the building. Children ran from wall to wall as the caregiver raced after them. But that wasn't what they set their eyes upon. A girl, about 14 or 13 years of age crouched down in front of a child with coca smooth skin.
She was comforting the child in their eyes and giving reassuring hugs every now and again. Then a familiar couple appeared around the corner.
It was Kirsten, and her husband, Michael. The girl stood and carried the luggage over to the man, though he met halfway and grabbed it for her. It didn't take long before the new family walked out the door, only after recognizing their in-law and greeting a hello.
"Kirsten told me to tell you hello." Tyler started, taking a seat next to his spouse.
"I missed them?" Jenna asked.
He nodded. "Yeah, where'd you go?"
"Gettin' the papers. And the book of pictures of the kids"
"Can I hold it?" He asked. She nodded and handed over the slightly thick binder of black leather over.
Turning the crinkling pages, he scanned each face, laughing to himself a certain times because of the number of silly faces the kids would make. Then he saw it. Or more like-- her. He found an interest in her. Something... Appealing, he's never seen anything like her before. She was.. Unique. He allowed his eyes to tear through the page as he found a all about me title in bold. Silently cursing himself for his obliviousness.
He looked at the brief biography underneath the self portrait:
Name: Forester, Elizabeth
Age: 14
Eye color: Blue-Green, (Teal?)
Interests: Art, Music, Animals
Background: Unknown (doesn't speak about it)
Favorite color: doesn't have one
Information you need to know: Twitches under stress. Rarely laughs, quiet. Her eyes
It stopped there. It seemed as it that last sentence was supposed to mean more than it let on and it put an unknown pressure on Tyler's chest. But he still wanted to care for the child. And he wasn't the only one.
"Hey Jenna?"
"Hm?" She hummed, tilting her head slightly but keeping her eyes locked on the flying bird on her cellphone.
"What about her, I like her."
She shut her phone off and grabbed one side of the binder as he held the other. She smiled. "Ironic, how I looked at the same girl. Its something about her that fits perfectly."
He pursed his lips in agreement "I know, right?"
"Found someone?" The sudden voice startled the couple as they looked up to be met with the same lady Jenna just spoken with.
They nodded.
"Who?"
"Elizabeth Forester." Jenna stated with a grin tugging at her lips.
"Oh." The simple word came out uneasy and anything but assuring.
"Is there something wrong?" Tyler asked rather quickly. He felt defensive against why this woman would react like that.
She blew off air in her cheeks, preparing a false sentence. "No, no sir, of course not. Right this way." The couple gave questioning looks at each other before following the woman.
"I'll call her down so you two can see if you like her enough for adoption." She forced out before leaving with a huff and slamming the door.
Jenna's face morphed into a rude expression at the gesture. "Somebody put horse radish in her mayonnaise."
Tyler shook his head with a smile at the odd sentence used to compare the ladies ignorance. All they had to do now, is wait.
