"Wait, Ethan, were not-" the boy ignored the protests and took a large leap and completely demolished the couch fort they've tried so hard to construct. "-ready..." Elizabeth finished with a sigh.
It's been nearly a day since the mini welcome home celebration, but the boys act as if they've known each other for life, which would make some since seeing as they are only one year older than her.
Elizabeth groaned and dramatically collapsed on the back of Ethan as he grunted from the sudden weight. Grayson, feeling left out, collapsed on top of Elizabeth to complete the human sandwich. The poor souls beneath whaling out for help.
"Grayson! Get off me'man!" Ethan complained into the cushion which quickly silenced it.
"Ha, sorry can hear you." He taunted.
Elizabeth reached a hand out and used her index finger and thumb to grip a small piece of his skin with her small nub of a nail and pinch.
"Frick!" He jerked up and fell over her as she gasps for air while sitting up. He rubbed his arm. "Oh my god that hurt like a buttcheek on a stick."
Ethan rubbed his back with a confused expression "What the hell Grayson?"
"I'm not cursing, try it sometime."
Elizabeth rolled her eyes and fell back into the demolished fort as Ethan leaned next to Grayson which caused a domino affect and he leaned on the girls shoulder.
She felt at ease. Like nothing could ruin this moment. Joy was all she knew at the moment and that's all she planned to take advantage of. She's never felt this high up before. Like a symbolic flag in the air. She felt her eyes tingle, signaling a new coloration. She just simply watched as a dull gray color enveloped her vision. A sign of relaxation. Peace and tranquility. Like a hippy that just got some really good weed. She felt great.
"Your eyes..." She completely forgotten about the boys and used the palm of her hand to push herself into a straighter position.
Their attention was all on her as the color faded away. "I-"
"No, what, what was that?" Grayson asked. He was confused out of his mind and nervous beyond repair. Ethan not that far behind.
She stayed silent, careful with her words as she softly mouthed "Heterochromatic Iridium." It was a safe enough go-to. The closest solution she found herself.
Ethan furrowed his eyebrows and look at his twin as he did likewise.
"What exactly does that mean?""My previous... Owner was a-" she stopped herself from any further.
And thought of something quick to sum it all up. "My eyes change color to adapt to my emotions or adapt in general."They nodded. Not asking any questions about the previous interrupted statement that lingered in the back of their mind.
She stood up in time with the twins as their parents or (parent for Grayson and Ethan) entered the room from the kitchen. Josh had to leave sadly due to him stating something along the lines of some woman named Debby. Zack approached Elizabeth to hug her farewell and Grayson and Ethan took that as a sign that they're leaving.
Not wanting to be disrespectful, the twins placed the cushions on each designated placement and hugged Elizabeth goodbye as well.
"I hope to see you again, Iris." They said simultaneously. It was freakish how deadly accurate they said it at the same time. She arched an eyebrow "Iris?" She mimicked
"Yeah, that's how we remember you or something. The iris of your eye." Ethan shrugged. They had followed out the door and it was now just the Joseph's holding down their house.
Tyler grasped onto her hand as Jenna followed along. "Let's finish the tour shall we?"
