She sat on the edge of her bed. Once again, tracing the bulging faint blue lines against the soft skin of her foot as she gripped on tighter to her knees to make sure she didn't fall.

She would draw to pass time, Mercy loved it when she drew. She'd get ideas from the top of her head and sketch them first, then beg Mrs. Reina for a more sizable canvas. Nothing more than 3 dollars worth, but it was still something to get her ideas across.

She remembered the day Mercy was feeling sad because Lori, the Orphanages' main drama queen stole her blanket. The one her guardian gave Mercy before she died.

She felt so sad, and that changed Elizabeth. Because on that same day, her eyes changed their color.

It was nothing she'd never experienced before, but they changed a tainting red. She was fuming. Anger emitted off her body as she stormed down the steps and yanked the wool blanket from her grasp. Trudging back up the stairs, she nearly fell because the color not only tainted her eyes, but her vision as well. Red was the color of the walls and all racial discrimination was eliminated to the fact every person she saw had red skin and nearly black eyes.

But she didn't like it.

Mercy stared in shock as she pointed at her. Thankful for the blanket of course, but scared of her life for the red eyed monster in front of her.

"M-mercy?" Elizabeth tried to calm herself. "I-its me, Bean!"

She shook her head rapidly and backed away, but to no avail as she fell to the unsettling sodden floors. Her eyes twinged in pain as she winced. Rubbing her eyes, her vision came clear and Mercy, now stood, astonished.

"Mercy! See, its me!"

She still seemed uneasy and shaken up. "Your no regular Bean, Liza. Your a Mystery Bean."

Till this day she uses that nickname. But they never spoke of it again only because it made her uncomfortable.

The knock on the door, disrupted her thoughts as she was nearly scared to death and fell face flat on the floor. Of course it wasn't the only time she was caught off guard by thinking. Honestly, she doesn't think there has ever been a day she hasn't been caught off guard.

"Hello..." She groaned, ridding her face of the possible wood panel marks she'll gain.

"Elizabeth?" The door creaked open as she straightened her posture on the floor. Her knees acting as a cushion underneath her weight. She saw the wide-eyed girl staring intently at her.
"Why are you on the floor?"

"Why aren't  I on the floor?" She riddled. The elder woman sighed and parted her way besides the door to make room for the girl.

"Some folks would just, love to meet you." She emphasized.

Elizabeth furrowed her eyebrows in certain confusion. She wasn't informed of this sudden meeting, and she certainly wasn't dressed appropriately for this occasion. She looked down at the dull grey pants she wore along with her painting shirt. She was planning on painting a symbol. Something symbolic as a sign for hope for a better tomorrow.

She was led down the short hallway and came face-to-face with the wooden door she had said 'hi' to for far to many times. Hopefully this was her last.

Mrs. Reina left the poor child as she was silently having panic attacks. She'd been rejected oh, so many times and honestly, she'd rather die than feel than feel that pain ever again.

She swallowed the lump in her throat and lightly pushed on the door. Cursing herself for not knocking first.

"Hello!" A woman in her mid twenties, she presumed, and a man with a bright smile greeted her.

She sat down at the dysfunctional oak wood table, and gave a shaky sigh. "H-hello." Her anxiety was going through the roof. Though her internal feelings seemed so destructive, she only showed it by carving the nail on her fingers into the indents on the wood. With a subtle shake of her leg, as it constantly moved up and down by the balls of her feet.

Tyler noticed and stopped doing the exact same motion as she did and tried to make eye contact.

"It's okay, we just want to get to know you." He reassured. But didn't know the impact it had on her as she gave a faint smile. Maybe they're the family she's been looking for. But she can't be so sure...

"So let's start," Jenna said with a soft voice to match her smile. "My name is Jenna, and this is my husband Tyler."

At his name, he grinned at his spouse before they both exchanged greetings.

"Elizabeth."

They smiled, of course they knew that, but the girl made them smile. Something about her gave them hope.
