"What does the symbol on your hand mean?"
Elizabeth glanced over at Corey, the boy who asked the question but immediately re-thought about his words at the silence he received in return. Elizabeth sighed, it was a hard topic to come across but she had to let it out.
"Me and my sister have the same symbol on our hands." The table soon became quiet at her words.
"Elizabeth... You never told us you had a sister..." Jenna restated, positioning herself so that she was facing her daughter.
"I try to stay away from the topic." She mumbled.
"Oh, do you not want to-" Corey began but he was soon cut off by her.
"Oh no, I'll answer the question," she forced out. "But just to summarize the story, the X is supposed to be me. While my sister is the small rectangle around it, that keeps it in place." She smiled to herself. "She's the only one I have left... Technically."
Everyone wasn't able to formulate a proper sentence to reply to the slightly shocking news. There was still so much to learn about her, yet this was only the tip of the iceberg.
"...Where is she now?" Josh was brave enough to ask.
She furrowed her eyebrows "I don't know."
Just as she said that, the waiter by the name of Brandon as labeled on his name tag, placed down the bill for the dinner with a smile. "Will that be all for everyone?" He asked as Josh accepted the bill and paid it off.
Debby smiled. "Yes thank you."
He nodded and carried on with his day as everyone began to pack up and pronounce their farewells.
"Hey Elizabeth?" Corey asked grabbing on gently to her wrist to keep her from walking away with the group as they separated into their vehicles.
She raised her eyebrows and hummed as an answer.
"Maybe... Well um..." He sighed and mentally facepalmed. Then blushed a deep red as he realized he was still holding onto her hand. Her cheeks flushed as well with a sheepish grin. "I just wanted to say, that; I don't know you very well. Or your origin, nor the reason why your eyes are so distinctively beautiful. But what I do know, is that there are people on this planet that care enough to help someone out. I want to be one of those people..." He smiled.
"Thank you Corey... That means a lot to me." She then reached in her purse and revealed the case of her fathers band which put a smile to his face. It was then he realized what she was doing and whipped out his phone as well.
"We should hang out sometime. I can introduce you to my new cousins. They're pretty... Interesting." Elizabeth giggled at the usually in-humorous joke.
"Seems pretty cool! I could show you mine as well." He chuckled along.
Tyler slumped in the drivers seat as Josh taunted him with joking glances he didn't even have to turn his head to see.
The two kids where just standing at the entrance, enjoying each others company as Elizabeth laughed her ass off at some joke the boy said.
"Tyler what is it with you? You met this boy before many of times and suddenly, you two got beef?" Jenna said as she tore off a piece of Tyler's bread stick he never even touched at the dinner and pushed it into her mouth with her finger. "Its honestly really rude."
Tyler sat up in his seat and crossed his arms as Jenna just rose and eyebrow and ate the other half of the dough.
"It's not rude Jenna! And yeah whatever, but I just get this really bad feeling in my stomach that I don't really know what it is and I don't like it. I don't like Corey. I don't want him anywhere near her Jenna!" He argued back.
Jenna simply grinned. "That's the life of a father honey, you made it to step three."
Tyler never realized. He was so oblivious that he never knew they where filling out their own checklist. He rose an eyebrow "What is step three?"
"Boy problems."
Tyler simply groaned and slumped in his chair once again, not realizing that Elizabeth hugged Corey goodbye and was now inside the car with them.
Tyler turned the ignition on with a frustrated twist and drove off the lot. "So how was the dinner baby? Did you like Josh's girlfriend?"
"Yeah," the sound of her seat belt signaled her safety. "They where nice. Especially Corey. He's such a cool person to be around." She smiled to herself while catching her reflection in the window, subtly outlining her features.
Tyler sighed and clenched his jaw. Gripping the steering wheel tighter, he rested his head against the cushion that supported it as Jenna just agreed. "I do too. You should invite him over sometime." Tyler gave Jenna a side glare as she teased him.
Elizabeth gave a breathless chuckle as she nodded. "Ironic how I've already asked. He said it'd be cool to meet Grayson and Ethan."
Tyler smiled to himself at a thought that came to mind, just quietly listened to the girls as they conversed, careful to drive smoothly over the potholes that littered the streets, ironic enough to say that this was going to be one bumpy ride.
