My first day of work has come around, I got myself early to work to impress my new boss. All I'd be doing is washing the animals and just taking care of them, I was so excited that in the first time for a long time I was excited to be going to work.
"Veronica!" Kate called out. "You're early." She pointed out.
"Yes, very excited to work." I spoke happily.
"Well today I'm going to get you to clean out cages and clean the animals, see how you go with that?" She asked.
"I'm happy for anything, thank you again Kate." I smiled putting on my apron.
"Zak promised me it'll be worthwhile." She smiled, I was sure I saw her wiggle her eyebrows at me.
"Zak?" That son of a bitch got me this job!
"Yea after our adoption day I filled him in about you, being a new employee and all, he mentioned he knew you. Spoke very fondly of you." She later my back and guided me to the back.
"He didn't get me this job?" I asked concerned.
"No, but I'm pretty sure after speaking to Zak I knew j made the right choice." She winked at me. "Okay, pretty easy. These dogs here are due for baths, clean the up, then clean the cages and then we spend time playing."
"Alrighty!" I jumped in straight away and got to work.
About an hour and half I was covered in bubbled and soaked to my toes, my last little guy Labby was a handful to wash but he was an absolute cutie. He was a golden retriever, a new pup. I didn't know how no one didn't adopt him, looking into his big brown eyes I wanted him. "You're so cute. Yes you are!" I squealed. I already found my favourite dog.
"Veronica! Home time!" Oh how this day went by, I was outside paying around and getting to know my fellow work mates and now it was time to go. "We'll need you tomorrow afternoon is that okay?" Kate asked.
"Yes sure. I'll be here." I cheered, I grabbed my belongings and headed out.
I got home and sprawled myself on my bed, I was tired. I checked my phone to see if maybe Zak replied to my apologetic text but nothing. Maybe he was busy or maybe I had pissed him off, so I'll just text him again.
'Work was amazing. I fell in love with Labby.'
An hour passed and nothing so I texted him again.
'It's a really nice place to work.'
Nothing.
'I'm waving a white flag! I surrender.'
I chucked my phone away then it buzzed.
'I'm sorry you seen that text. I can prove to you it's nothing.'
He replied.
'No I was wrong to lay judgment without listening to you, I'm a horrible person. I miss you.'
I cuddled up to my pillow and soon drifted to sleep, I dreamt of Zak being in my arms. The dream felt so real, like if I moved I could touch him and feel his soft skin against the pads of my finger tips. I tossed and turned, my body jolted as I saw Zak at the foot of my bed. His eyes were red, his face was cracked, he looked hurt. "Zak!" I screamed.
He said nothing. "Zak?" I questioned again.
All he did was scream, so loud that it frighten me to wake up. I opened my eyes and no one was there, I rolled off the bed. "Zak?" I called throughout the house.
I was scared, the house seemed eerie so I grabbed my purse and headed out for a little bit. I had gotten to the door and opened it. "Oh!" I gasped.
"Hello baby" Carter surprised me with roses. "I've come to apologise, I was an absolute dick at the funeral." He apologised and he look like he meant it.
"Why are you here? What are you doing?" I asked confused.
"I miss you Roni, have dinner with me? Nothing more than friends, I thought since we're over we need to settle the house issue in Seattle?"
Oh shit. I brought a house with this man, I rolled my eyes and nodded. "Okay. Just friends." I locked up and made Carter come in my car.
"Where's the guys?"
"Lockdown." I sharply answered. "Couldn't we have done this in front of a lawyer?" He rolled his eyes to me. "You're not handling this!" I yelled.
Carter was a successful lawyer but I wasn't leaving him to deal with this issue, I wanted my money back from the house. We went halves so I just want my half back, maybe then I could get out of Aaron's hair and get my own place.
"I can't believe your mother turned up."
"Can we not talk about her, please?" I pulled over and turned off my ignition.
"She is lost without you Roni, she just lost her mum." He was feeling sorry for her, he felt for it but I sure hell wasn't.
"And I lost my mother too, now my gran." I argued back angrily. "Don't defend her now Carter."
"You wanted her in your life a few years back, I know I wasn't the only reason you'd move to Seattle." He placed his hand on my thigh.
"You were the main reason, I wanted to be with you. And yes maybe see my mother, make sure she was still alive." I tossed my head over and looked away from him. "You know I always thought once I was older she might want to be in my life and fight for me but it hasn't happened, I don't have anyone now besides Zak and Aaron."
"Zak? Yo-you guys are close?" His teeth grinder together and his hands made a fist.
"He-we are kinda together now." I gripped the steering wheel hair, my knuckles became white.
"You moved on." He had the audacity to say that. I sat back in my chair while he unbuckled himself and got out of the car.
"You cheated on me, you called me fat!" I called out but he didn't hear me. "Carter, feed yourself! And I'll call a lawyer!" I started up my car and roared away.
No way was he going to do this to me again, think that this is all my fault.
