It was 8:30 in the morning, and I was sitting in the doctor's office trying not to fall asleep. Today I was getting my bandages off and the okay to start cheering again. The doctors contacted my parents and told them that as long as I felt ready, I could get my bandages removed and be ready to cheer again.

"Summer Fields," the door to the waiting rooms opened and a nurse in a floral set of scrubs opened the door. She had a fake looking smile on and was carrying a clipboard.

"C'mon sweetheart," she forced with a friendly click in her tongue and a roll of her eyes.

My mom smiled and I followed her into the office. The lady announced herself as "Nurse Susan" and led me into a check-up room.

"The doctor will be here in a moment. Fill in the questionnaire please." Then she slammed the door in my face and walked away. I winced and sat down in a plastic chair. My mom took the clipboard and began filling out the information sheet for me.

A moment later, a docker knocked on the door and came into the little room.

"Hello. I'm Doctor Eve." She shook each of her hands and motioned for me to lay down on the paper wrapped table.

"So you're ready to get your gauze off, huh kiddo?" I nodded and shifted closer to the wall.

"Well we're gonna do just that." She smiled and picked up a little prescription bottle from the counter.

"This is just ibuprofen, but I'm going to have you take one because sometimes the bandages hurt- almost like ripping off a bandaid, but a little bigger." She screwed off the cap and poured two pills into her hands. I nervously took them and downed them dry.

"Good girl. Now swing your legs down and turn around so I have a clear view of your back." I did as I was told, and she began to carefully but quickly removed the bandages. I winced a couple times, but it was never extremely painful.

Mom looked at me with a big smile on her face and said, "Thanks doc. We have to leave soon! We're a little behind schedule." Doctor Eve jumped up and handed the prescription bottle to my mother.

"Take this at least once a day sweetie, or whenever you have pain." Then she grabbed the questionnaire and headed out of the room. Mom smiled and we walked out of the room behind her until we go to the elevator.

The door beeped, and welcomed us into the main lobby. I took a pump of hand sanitizer and then followed Mom to the door. She unlocked the car and I slid into the passenger side and grabbed my cheer bag. I slid on my sneakers and changed into a Cheer Athletics shirt. Then I was on my way to the Stunt-O-Thon Clinic- good as new.
