Chapter 39 - Nightmare

I wake up and strangely I'm in the dorms. I'm not even an initiate any more and I was sure I fell asleep in my apartment. I try to move but my body doesn't respond as if on its own, My back jerks up into a sitting position. mechanically my legs slide off the bed and stand on te ground. I can see people around me doing the same thing but I don't really see who they are because I can't move my head. I get dressed into some black pants and a tshirt. I lace up combat boots and get into a bulletproof vest. This must be serious. I tie my hair into a ponytail and my hands fall back to my sides. I make my way over to a line and we begin to move. Everyones feet hit the concrete floors in sync as we make our way down the hallway. I try to shout but my thougts seem to be trapped inside my head.

The line stops and I think we are in the pit. Up ahead people are picking guns up and contuinuing to walk. Everytime someone picks up a gun we move up one space in the line. As I move up a hand reaches out and stops me. I here the clip clop of heels and know who it is.

"Oh, this must be Eric's girl. Ro. Too bad she was ranked second she could have been useful." all I hear is mumbling but I know something is being said. "Do you know how much he wanted to save you? save you from all of this. But he couldn't" I can't even make out one word being said, It's frustrating. "You know, he called me mother for the first time in years today. After the use of serum but it still felt great to have that power over him again." I've just given up trying to guess her words and try to calm myself down. "come on jeanine just let her grab a gun and keep on going" "Oh Max you've never been any fun." I feel the hand let go of me and continue walking. I pick a rifle up from te table and continue walking. I see that we are outiside. We march over to the tracks.

The train stops for the first time in history and the dauntless pile in in an orderly fashion. Once I get inside i see that everyone is standing still in one frozen picture. I am just trying to keep myself calm because whatever is happening it probably won't help if I'm stressed out. I take deep breaths in and out. I have so many questions. What's going on and what does it have to do with eric's mom? More importantly where is Eric. I hope this doesn't have something to do with those text messages last night, because if it does it means everyone is in danger. Where is Uriah and zeke? Marlene and Lynn? Tris and Four? The deep breath idea is gone and I'm freaking out again.

As if on queue my finger starts to twitch. Then my leg. It stops and when I try to move my finger again and i'm successful. I blink my eyes, stiff from being open so long. I look around and see everyone is still standing there. I look up the car and see a back tattoo peaking out over the bulletproof vest. It's Four. No one on this car isn't frozen so I quickly make my way towards him, dodging the people in my way. I stop when I see a familiar figure in my path. It's Lynn. I shake er shoulder, no response. "Lynn?" I whisper and she doesn't answer. I don't want to draw any attention from anyone who may be listening in the other cars so I just keep walking. I arrive behind Four and see that Tris is there too. They are both as still as statues. I stand in front of Four and tap his shoulder. He stays still. "Four?" I whisper. Not even a twitch. I grab both his shoulders and begin to cry. "Don't leave me to!" I almost shout and instantly Fours arms engulf me in their embrace. I sigh in relief.

I pull back and look at tris who is moving freely. "What the fuck is going on?" I whisper and four looks at me. "Jeanine is controlling the dauntless to win power over the factions. She used a serum to create mindless drones to do her dirty work." He says and I furrow my brows. "Then why are we awake?" I question and Four looks at his feet. "Because we're divergent" He says and I feel my chest drop. "No, that's impossible...... My test... I got Dauntless and I showed no signs of divergence during testing" I say and Four nods. "I know. You weren't always divergent. It's rare, but in some cases divergence can be developed. In your case It's because you developed of your love for eric. You developed selflessness in wanting to protect and love him. It happens to both the people in the relationship. So eric has developed it too." I am mindblown. "But Uriah..." I start and four cuts in. "What about Uriah?" "He's divergent." I say and Four looks shocked. He looks to Tris and she nods back towards me. "How did you know?" he questions. "He told me. Eric helped him cover it up." I reply and four only nods.

"Where are we going?" I ask changing the subject. "Abnegation" he replies and I put the pieces together. Jeanine wants power, she's going to take it by force. "We're going to war, aren't we?" He nods. the train starts to slow down and he looks at me. "Don't blink and only move when everyone else does, got it?" he says and I nod. He gives tris a hand squeeze and goes back to being frozen. I stand up and take a deep breath. The train pulls in and I stop blinking. We climb out of the train in the abnegation sector. The army of dauntless begins to walk and I follow.

We keep on beat and I see four and tris are right in front of me. They keep walking but I am stopped with yet another hand. "Aww ro, 2nd ranked now you are worth absolutely nothing" I hear max say and a chuckle from beside him. Eric.

My eye twitches and max gasped. "Do you think she might be-" Eric stops him mid sentence. "Yes. I'll deal with it" he grabs my arm harshly and drags me around the corner through some old houses.
He's divergent according to four. He obviously broke through the serum and is going to save me.

We are out of sight but haven't stopped. "Eric you can let go now we are out of sight." I whisper. He grips tighter and continues to a patch of green grass. "Kneel down" he says firmly. "Eric?" I question. "Now" he says and I kneel down. I hear him pull something from his pockets and I gasp when I feel a cold gun against my head. "Eric stop" I beg and he doesn't listen. "Shut up pedrad" he says and a single tear slips down my cheek. "Eric please don't" I beg again. "Pedrad I said shut it!!!!" He screams and I close my eyes. Tears continue to roll down my cheek. "Okay. I don't know if your still in there, but I love you Eric. And I want you to know when you wake up when all this is over, it wasn't your fault. I love you." I end up whispering at the end realising how weak I truly am. The bullet clicks into the chamber and I hear shouting in the background. The gun goes of and all I see is darkness.
