Chapter 4
Jonathan's P.O.V.
I was very excited. All day I thought of how perfect she looked in the photograph my mom had showed me. I don't know why but I couldn't take her out of my mind. My best buddie, Drew, noticed.
-hey dude,- he said,- you have been blushing all morning. What's wrong with you? You feeling the butterflies?- I stared at him. He said I was blushing. Feeling the butterflies? I don't think so. Amanda was my cousin. One thing was thinking she was beautiful, but liking her? I'm pretty sure that was not it.
-dude, of course not, I was just thinking about my cousin, ok?- I said.
He got this weird look on his face that kind of said " so you're thinking of a girl?"
I rolled my eyes at him and he laughed really hard.
-look, Jona, when math class is over we're talking because you have the same look you had when you liked m...." And he closed his mouth. He knew how I felt when we talked about merliah. I nodded and just told him that "it's okay."
We entered the room. The teacher was not there yet. I sat next to Roxie. She was my best friend since we were very little. She knew everything that happened in my life. I was very sad since Drew mentioned Merliah. I had tried to move on. I went out with girls but I never forgot her. I guess Roxie saw the look on my face because she asked if I was okay. I shrugged. She hugged me.
Merliah was a girl I had a big crush on when I was in the 6th grade. We once went out and everything turned perfect. She told me she liked me very much. The day I was going to ask her if she wanted to be my girlfriend, which was about 2 months after going out with her the first time, I didn't find her at her house. I knocked and knocked but no one was there. The next day in school they made a horrible announcement. They had said that she had hanged herself. I was devastated. I got depressed. I moved on, just not enough. I let go of those thoughts for the rest of the day. I thought of Amanda. I started smiling again. When three periods were over, Roxie, Drew, and I went to the cafeteria. We talked a lot of how summer vacation was. I told them all about Amanda. I told her why she had moved to our house. I told them she was younger than us. Roxie said that she seemed like a nice girl and would like to meet her. Drew said that he wanted to meet her too and to ask her out. I told him that it would never work. He laughed.
-man, I was just kidding.- He said. I was mad and I don't know why. I hadn' t met her but I wanted to.
When school was over Roxie reminded me that I had to go to soccer practice. I didn't want to go but I had to. I just wanted to go home and meet my cousin and my aunt. I thanked her and went over to the field. I gor a little tired but made it. After soccer practice, I went over to Drew and asked him if he thought his mom could drive me over. He said yes. Aunt Pattie drove me home and I thanked her. I waved bye to Drew and they left. I went inside the house. I saw a beautiful woman sitting in the living room. She smiled at me and introduced herself as my Aunt Olivia. She hugged me and I hugged her back. I told her I had to shower and she laughed and told me to go on. I greeted my mother and I high fived my sister. I know, weird, but it's what we always did when we saw each other. I went up to my room and showered quickly. I got out of there and went over to the door where my cousin was staying. I knocked and I started to imagine her again. I went in. I saw her and she turned around. I was excited. I introduced myself. I hugged her and then she hugged me back and it felt just right. I hugged her tighter and welcomed her to the family. She looked at me and smiled. A very beautiful smile. She let a tear rolled down her cheek and said "thank you."
