"It's a hell of a long story."

I stood there, my chest heaving in anxiousness as my eyes bulged at their bewildered expressions. I can't believe I had just outed myself and most likely ripped the only place I had to live from under my feet.
The boys looked at me in shock, their voices caught in their throat with caution. The light brown-haired one, Cameron, was the first to speak up, his honeyed voice barely above a whisper.
"Um... Who are you?"
I looked down at my feet sheepishly, ignoring the stares of the boys. "I am a girl," I spoke almost too sarcastically.
Nash snorted, ruffling his hair. "Obviously, but what are you doing here?"
I looked around the room, seeing my belongings laying across the room and scattered around the corner where my sheets laid.
"Oh you know, just checking the place out. It's quite nice, don't you think?" I asked, smiling cheekily.
"Surely that's not the reason, why would you bring a duffle bag and sheets to a place you found nice?" Cameron interrupted Nash, who was on the verge of saying something.
"How do you know that's mine?" I questioned, trying to not sound suspicious.
"So there's more of you?" Nash asked, looking at me cautiously.
"Well... Not trying to call anyone out, you know?" I shrugged my shoulders.
"Understandable," Cameron pursed his lips together, walking around the room. "What's your name?"
"What's next, where was I born?" I cackled, trying to avoid the subject.
Cameron simply looked at me, then continued looking around the room.
"I can tell you're not here to just check out the place, you're homeless, aren't you?" Cameron asked, pushing the sheets over with his foot to reveal the fifty dollars Alex had given me.
I looked away from him to Nash, avoiding his question. "Are y'all even old enough to work for the government?"
Nash's eyebrows crinkled, his eyes boring into mine as he tried to figure out what kind of game I was playing. "Yeah, perfectly legal."
I looked away from him, and back to Cameron, who was now snooping through my duffle bag.
"Hey, get away from that!" I demanded, becoming defensive at the thought of some weird young-looking government worker snooping through my clothes.
"Sorry, Alena," Cameron mumbled, walking over to the window sill to examine the blood.
My face went blank.
"Who's Alena?" I coughed, my voice shaky as I spoke. I began to pop my knuckles, a bad habit I had picked up from Matthew, as I looked at Cameron.
"You tell me," Cameron smiled smugly, sitting down on my sheets.
I looked over at Nash, who was also making himself comfortable. I let out a deep sigh, knowing that I would have to confess to everything — breaking into Matthew's house, being gay, admitting that I'm homeless, and what seemed to be the worse for me, being 16.
"It's a hell of a long story."
