"You broke my heart. If anything you deserve what's coming your way."

--

My feet hit the scorching sidewalk as sweat beaded down my forehead and onto my upper-lip. I groaned, wiping at my face to get off some of the residue. I really hated sweating, or being active enough to actually start to sweat. My eyes squinted through the blinding sunlight, and continued to look for the yellow house Tanaya lived in.

My cheeks formed somewhat of a smile once I saw her outside, pouring some water on growing saplings. My feet slowly thudded towards her house, and once I reached it I gripped the metal gate forcefully, hoping that pain would dull the ache in my chest.

"Hey," I muttered softly, seeing how she didn't notice me and I didn't want to startle her. Tanaya turned around, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear.

She walked closer to the gate, putting down the pot of water in the process. Her eyes smoldered into my skin and I could almost feel the third degree burns she was making — Or maybe that was the sun, either way it was intense.

"What are you doing here?" She asked me, not caring about my blood shot eyes or tear streaked face. "And why does it look like you've seen a puppy be murdered?"

"Hello to you too," I chuckled, trying to enlighten the situation. My lips formed a pout as I saw she was still mad about that day. "My mother's have kicked me out."

I figured I might as well be straight forward, she was already pissed at me and there was no point in denying what happened.

"Oh."

I looked at her incredulously, wondering if I heard her response correctly.

"That's all you have to say?"

There was a moment of silence. And then she chuckled, like literally just burst out laughing.

"Why are you laughing?" I frowned.

"Because you-" She cut herself off with an even louder laugh. "You came here! Why would you do something so stupid!?"

She wiped tears of joy from her waterline.

"Jeez, I know you're smarter than this Alena. You didn't actually think I would let you stay here, did you?"

If it was even possible, I felt my heart drop farther into my stomach, and that same ache came back.

"I never said anything about staying here," I said quietly, but in the back of my head I knew the only reason I was in this situation was because I had hopes of her forgetting what happened that day.

"Then why are you here Alena?"

I paused and thought about my answer. I thought real hard about the outcome of each response I could say.

"Just to say that I'm leaving. And I wanted to say goodbye," I replied curtly.

"What made you think that I wanted to see you again, nonetheless say goodbye to you?"

I rolled my eyes. "Because if you hadn't noticed we were in a relationship and even after we broke up I cared about you deeply-"

Tanaya cut me off, her mood changing as she hit the metal gate as if it were a wall. "You don't get to say that you cared about me after you broke my fucking heart, Alena."

"I know... I just thought that-"

She cut me off once again.

"Well you thought wrong. Listen, you broke my heart. If anything you deserve what's coming your way."

And at the worst possible moment, tears began streaming down my face; Harder than when my parents kicked me out and faster than Matthew's parents' had took him away from me.

"Thanks for letting me know yet again how big of a fuck up I am. Have a nice life, Tanaya, and thank you for all the wonderful memories you helped me make."

I gave her one last gentle smile and began to walk away from her house, not hearing any other words leaving her mouth. I would have to do this on my own now, with no friends and more importantly no family.
