Chapter 29

It's been a few weeks and Riley has been around school hanging out with Mackenzie. They always make it a mission to remind me of how much they don't like me and I'm getting sick of it.

The last time I saw Ross was almost a week ago when our group of friends decided to do a bonfire. I haven't received a call or text nor has he come to my house ever since he hasn't even shown up to school.

"Come on Ash, you can't keep doing this," Savannah says opening the door to my room. "Doing what? I'm just doing homework." I lie. I've been checking my phone every five minutes just in case I receive a text from him.

"Uhuh, sure." She says crossing her arms.

"I just want to know why he just suddenly disappeared." I frown and she gives me a sad smile. "I don't know Ash, but why don't you go out this one time and if it doesn't get your mind off him then I won't bother you anymore." I sigh but agree.

I changed to look a little more presentable and we left for Savannah's car.

"Why hasn't he reached out to Vanni?" I ask her as we are on our way to a café. "I don't know, have you tried calling him?" I shake my head no.

"Why not?" She asks. "because I thought he would, and tell me what was going on."

"That's not how guys work, especially not Ross." She shakes her head and I sigh leaning my head on the window of Savannah's car.

Soon enough we arrive at the little coffee shop and walk in to find Ross and Riley together.

"Is that Ross and Riley?" Savannah asks when she walks in after me. "This is exactly what I needed tonight."

"Can you leave me the fuck alone?" He tells her shoving her off him. "Come on Ross, why don't you show me a good time, like I've heard so many girls talk about." She says putting her hands on his chest but he jerks away. "The only girl I want is my girlfriend, there is no other girl I'm fucking, especially if that girl is you."

With my blood boiling with jealousy, I clear my throat and they both turn around to find me standing there. "Hey baby, I don't know how much you heard but we aren't here together, I've been telling her to leave me alone." Ross is now inches away from me.

"You should take a hint," I tell Riley crossing my arms. Riley just rolls her eyes and stomps away.

"Care to explain why you've been ghosting me for the past week? You know I was worried about you?" I frown with my arms still crossed.

"I'm just in a really bad place right now. My sister called me on Monday saying that my dad got into an accident and is in critical condition." He says and my jaw drops.

"Why didn't you tell me? You know you can tell me anything." I say embracing him in a hug. "I thought I could handle it on my own like I always do, I'm sorry."

"What? No, you have nothing to be sorry for but next time something bad happens remember I'm here for you." I am leaning up on my tiptoes and kissing his lips. "I love you," I say before he pulls away too soon.

"Maybe we should take a break." He says making me take a step back. "Just until I have everything with my dad figured out." He reaches out for my hand when he sees my eyes water up with tears. "I love you, I just need some time."

"Right, obviously, I understand." I nod my head and run out of the coffee shop.

Savannah followed behind and drove me home since the whole going out thing wasn't working in my favor.

"Thanks for the ride, Vanni. I'll talk to you later." I say before getting out of her car and running into my house.

When I got in I ran upstairs without saying a word to anyone and snuggled into my bed, crying the whole night.

For the past couple of days, I've been locked in my room and out of sight. I don't feel in the mood to talk to anyone, I would rather watch Netflix and eat ice cream, but sadly I have to be interrupted by the doorbell ringing multiple times.

I lazily and annoyingly walk down the stairs and to the door to answer it. When I open the door Danny is outside.

"Hey Danny, Jonathan isn't here right now," I told him giving him a small smile.

"Oh I'm not here for Jonathan, I was just with him. I'm here to see you." He smiles and I look at him confused.

"Why?" I'm very confused. "Jonathan told me you weren't feeling so great so I thought, why not keep your company." He smiles brightly.

"That's very sweet of you, thank you," I say finally letting him in. He walks in and follows me to the living room.

"Do you want anything to drink?" I ask and he shakes his head. "No, I'm good. So what were you doing before I showed?"

"Watching reruns of Criminal Minds and munching on ice cream," I say giggling a little at how pathetic I sound.

"Where has Ross been?"

"Why do you ask?" I ask and see he's a bit nervous.

"It's just that ever since he disappeared you've been blowing off hangouts and stuff." He says in almost a whisper, frowning.

"What do you care? It's not like it affects you." I say giving him an attitude. Honestly, though why does he care?

"I care because I like you and I hate he gets away with hurting you!" He pulls at his roots and my eyes widen. "What?"

"I like you, okay? I've liked you since your first day at Northeast High." He sighs and shakes his head.

"Why didn't you say anything?" I ask him and he shrugs his shoulders. "There was no point Ross was going to get you. When he told me there was a new girl in town he also told me he wasn't going to stop until he got her. Then when I found out it was you I knew I had no shot."

"Danny, I'm so sorry."

"Yeah, I am too." He says before he takes hold of my cheeks and captures my lips in his. I was surprised and quickly pulled away.

"What the hell?!" I say whipping my mouth. "I'm sorry." He says looking down at his hands. "Yeah, you know, you shouldn't do that to your best friend's girlfriend."

"He doesn't deserve you. Can we at least try like going out?" He asks and I think about it for a few seconds.

"I'll let you know." He just nods smiling a bit and leaves my house, I sigh and go up to my room.
