Just as Yoongi was about to leave his house, his phone vibrated with a notification from Skype. He fumbled with his phone for a moment before unlocking it and seeing who it was from, holding his breath and hoping it was from [Name]. It wasn't like he had many other contacts. Just Ange and a few of [Name]'s friends who she'd added him in a group chat with.
raindrops: hi
sugasweet: ...
sugasweet: WHAT HAPPENED
raindrops: lemme call you back lmao
He immediately answered when [Name] called and started interrogating her.
"What happened? Why'd you cut out? Are you okay?" [Name] laughed, calming the boy down. She was alive at least, and she didn't sound like she was in pain.
"Well you see... I was crossing the street, but the light turned yellow so I started running and then I dropped my phone. The back fell off and my call with you ended. I had to grab my phone and finish running across in a red light. Then I had to turn my phone on and it restarted when I turned it on. After that it said it couldn't connect to the data for some time and then as soon as it connected I sent you a message!" [Name] explained, laughing. Yoongi shook his head, walking back into his house.
"Fucking Christ," he muttered.
"Hey, what kind of teenager am I if I don't piss drivers off while on my phone with dyed hair?" [Name] said, bursting into a fit of giggles again. Yoongi sighed, rolling his eyes. She could have been run over and she was just laughing. At least she was alive. She was alive.
"I was worried you know. Especially since your last words before you cut out were 'oh fuck.'" Yoongi shook his head even though he knew [Name] couldn't see him. He smiled at [Name]'s light attitude.
She laughed on the other side of the line, trying to draw his attention away from the incident and move on. She started talking about her trip to Puerto Rico and instantly Yoongi was drawn to her voice, her words, her laughter, and her presence on the other side of the line. He found it strange how interested he was in what she was saying, despite her bad storytelling skills. She hesitated a lot and forgot what she was saying all the time, yet he was still completely into it.
He wondered what she had done with the cool Min Yoongi because he just seemed to fall apart at her fingertips. He wondered if this was the effect he had on all those people who came and confessed to him. Did his every word draw them in and take over their mind? Because if he had the ability to make so many people do that, he was amazed. To make even one person feel that way was amazing. [Name] was amazing.
The girl went quiet after telling him she entered the store. He assumed she didn't want people staring at her too much. She still talked to him but less and much more softly. She picked out dye for herself and for him, laughing again when he said he'd pay her back. She laughed a lot. She laughed at his lame jokes and puns and his stories about his friends. She laughed when he said something cheesy or sweet or when she thought he was joking when he said "you're an amazing person, [Name]."
"Oblivious," Ange had called her best friend. Yoongi could see why. He wondered how she didn't notice his staring of the way he smiled when she talked or laughed when she did despite not doing that with anyone else. How could she not see? Everyone else did. He'd have to talk to Seokjin. The elder was right, after all.
"You know, Yoongi, I'm happy that you were so worried." He heard the store bell chime along with the rustling of plastic bags as [Name] walked out of the store, heading back home. He raised an eyebrow before remembering that she couldn't see him at the moment.
"What do you mean?" he asked. [Name] remained silent for a moment. Yoongi didn't press. He knew she was bad at expressing her feelings and thoughts. She never knew how to get the right words out.
"I guess, it's nice to know that you care? That you would be concerned. It's nice to know that you were scared and worried when I disappeared. That you knew I could have been hurt and didn't immediately brush it off as nothing. I don't know. It's just nice. I don't have very many close friends so it's nice to know someone other than Ange cares," she explained slowly.
"You're important to me. Of course I would care. You're someone I trust and care about and you're an amazing person. I'm lucky to have someone like you in my life," he said. Too cheesy, he thought, but true.
"I'm glad. I care about you a lot too," she said. He could hear the smile in her voice despite the sound of cars driving by and honking on the busy streets she was walking on. He was glad they were so loud because if they weren't maybe she'd be able to hear his heart beating through his shitty microphone. Did anyone make her heart beat like she did his? Could he do that?
"Anyways, be at my house by six?"
"Sounds cool. I'll be there."
"Great. We'll have to set Ange and Hoseok up somehow." She laughed again. Yoongi thought of the way she brought her hand up to cover her mouth with the back of it when she laughed or was smiling widely as she talked. He wished she didn't cover it so much, but he'd grown used to her cute habit. He liked all of her cute habits. Damn, Yoongi was fucking whipped.
