Yoongi followed [Name], helping her keep up some small talk. She led him off into the same forest she'd taken him too a while before. He followed without questioning her. She wouldn't tell him anyways. It was better to just go along until he found out what she wanted. Yeah, he understood she wanted to watch the sunrise, but not where or why or anything else.
He noticed her look up at the sky and did the same. It looked like the sun was just under the horizon, but [Name] frowned. She turned to Yoongi.
"We need to go a little faster," she said before continuing to lead the way. Yoongi followed. He looked around and didn't pause when [Name] led them off of a path. Just a minute of so of walking brought them to some abandoned cement beginnings of a building. It was covered in colorful graffiti of various patterns and names. There were some stairs that led to an incomplete second floor, columns supporting the building and air replacing walls and windows. [Name] led him over to the edge of the floor, kicking some pebbles away before taking a seat and gesturing for Yoongi to do the same. He sat down and turned to the girl. Now seemed like an appropriate time for explanations. He didn't have to wait long.
"This is my favorite place to go to watch the sunrise. Sunsets are okay too, but it's pretty scary getting back in the dark, so I tend to only go for sunrises. Or just during the day, if I want to do something away from people in peace. I go here to sing sometimes. Or draw. Or just relax sometimes, I guess. It's really peaceful. No one really comes here. There was a path that used to lead here, but it's closed off now. No one goes here though, so it doesn't really matter. It's really nice," she explained.
"How'd you find it then?" Yoongi asked. [Name] shrugged.
"I saw one of those really small paths that no one ever actually takes a little further down that path we took. It passed this at a bit of a distance," she said. "I saw it from there so I went over here and discovered it to be a really nice place."
Yoongi looked around. It was like [Name] was sharing a really important part of her. They were close, yes. He would probably consider her one of his closest friends at this point, despite how little time they had known each other. Still, something about the way [Name] was looking out at the forest around them, at the sky, and the world in general told him that this place was more than a nice little spot to look at the sunrise from to her. This was personal and important, and she had shared that with him.
[Name] let out a soft sigh. Yoongi blinked.
"Look, it's starting," she breathed. He turned his head to the sky, or more specifically, the horizon. A few rays of light peeked out over the treetops. The sky was a warm golden color. It didn't look like a sunset at all, contrary to his belief. Sunsets always looked more of a blood red to him, some soft pink in there as well. The sunrise looked like liquid gold was leaking out into the sky. The clouds were lit up magically, and Yoongi decided he preferred sunrises to sunsets in one breath.
A soft breeze rustled the leaves of the trees around them. Yoongi couldn't tear his eyes away from the sun slowly rising until it was fully above the horizon. He hadn't said a word to [Name], but he felt he didn't need to. She seemed to understand perfectly how much he appreciated being taken here and shown this sunrise, this part of [Name].
"You know," [Name] started. She paused for a moment, trying to find the right words.
"Hm?"
"Everyone... Everyone is so caught up in thinking about endings that they don't see the beauty in beginnings," she finally said. Yoongi breathed in. He breathed out.
"That sounds like something you'd see on one of those inspirational quote pages with a picture of a sunrise or something in the background," he responded, effectively ruining the moment. [Name] grinned.
"Maybe I should make one of those. That will be on the top so everyone sees it and decides to look at my page, but when they scroll down further they'll see shit like 'life sucks but it also doesn't care what you think.'"
Yoongi let out a small laugh.
"Do it," he urged her. [Name]'s grin widened.
"Maybe I will," she said. "Sounds fun."
Yoongi looked back out over the forest. The sky was still tinted gold. It was beautiful.
"You're right though. We do tend to think about endings a lot more than beginnings. Thinking about graduation, then college and graduation for that, then finding a job to just live a life. All that stuff. Yeah, we technically think about the beginnings of college and stuff, but really we don't think about beginnings. We don't appreciate stuff like that. There's a lot of things to appreciate that we miss. I guess there's only so much we have space for," he thought aloud.
"That's fair," [Name] responded. Yoongi turned back to [Name] again as they went back to a comfortable silence. She was a beautiful person. Not necessarily physically attractive, although she was quite pretty in his personal opinion too. He just really liked the way she saw the world and all the small, silly little things about her. Sometimes when he was with her he thought he was in some cliche fantasy romance or something. It had to be fantasy. Everything was fantastical with [Name]. He thought she might also think she was born into the wrong world sometimes. This is what they were stuck with though, and she was making the most of it.
He had a plan and all. This was as good a time as any. He felt the confidence from the previous night, although the nerves were there too. He was ready. He could do it. And yet, when he opened his mouth to speak, he looked at [Name] sitting with the forest and sky in the background. No, surrounding her, also a part of the image and beauty. Not just a background. He looked at her and couldn't help the words from tumbling out without his permission.
"I like you."
