Yoongi was never good with words. He also wasn't good with feelings. Comforting people? That was out of the question. He was usually isolated, even when he was with his friends, in a way. He could give advice, but his words could be harsh. If someone wanted comfort, Yoongi was not the person they went to. He'd be the critic, pointing out everything they did wrong, everything they could change, every mistake they made. He was the one who told the harsh truth. So when Yoongi saw [Name] crying in front of the school, he had absolutely no idea what to do.
He couldn't ignore her. That would be horrible. [Name] was his friend and he cared about her. Just leaving her was not a sign of care and friendship.
He decided to try talking to her. Maybe he'd be able to help, although he doubted it. He could at least try until someone like Ange or Taehyung came.
"Hey, [Name], what happened?" he asked softly. Being gentle was not something he did well, but [Name] didn't look like she cared at the moment.
"M-my parents... th-they promised that w-we'd go t-to America in th-the winter," she took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. "We were going to visit my f-friends 'cause I haven't seen them in th-three years. This morning they said I couldn't go. My dad has to go to China for a meeting a few days before New Year's so he's going to stay throughout the holidays. My mom is going to go with him. Apparently they don't want to send me alone, so I'm not going. They're constantly telling me, 'Oh, maybe next time,' but we have yet to visit. I just--I just want to visit my friends again." She bit her lip, trying not to cry. Yoongi didn't know what to say. What was he supposed to say? 'Oh, well maybe next time?' That would just annoy her. Words were really not his forte.
Since words didn't usually work out very well for Yoongi, he settled for the thing that he was more comfortable with: actions. After a moment of hesitation, he tried wrapping his arms around [Name]. He understood she wasn't the type of person who liked hugs that much, but he decided she looked like she needed one anyways. He made sure to watch her, so that he could stop if he was making her uncomfortable. [Name] did flinch at first, but before Yoongi could pull away, [Name] returned the gesture, holding onto him tightly. It was kind of awkward for both of them, as [Name] didn't immediately relax, but he soon came to understand what Ange meant when she said [Name] gave very comforting hugs. He wasn't even the one in distress at the moment, yet [Name]'s embrace calmed Yoongi and filled him with a warm feeling.
It was probably because she didn't give hugs often and because that meant if she was hugging someone, something very important must have happened. Whatever the reason, it was a nice feeling and he wouldn't mind feeling it again.
They pulled apart when [Name] calmed down a bit. Her eyes were still red, but they stopped shedding tears. Yoongi sat next to her as she wiped away her tears. There was still some time before their first class would start so neither of them worried about that. Instead, Yoongi watched people pass by as [Name] tried to clean up her face. They received a few looks, but no one stared for too long.
"[Name]! Yoongi!" someone called out. They turned to see Ange running over to them. Taehyung ran out from behind some bush and followed her. Yoongi probably would have questioned Taehyung for hiding in a bush before school if he hadn't known the boy for a few years before.
After many questions from the two younger students and a short explanation from [Name] and Yoongi, the teasing began again.
"Aw, you guys are so cute! Please just date already," Ange said. [Name] snorted but blushed and looked away. Yoongi thought back to Seokjin's mini-lecture a few days before and his cheeks also started heating up. Before Ange could continue, [Name] decided to talk back.
"Cute and dating? Don't you mean you and Hoseok?" she smirked. Ange rolled her eyes, but a small red tint could be seen on her skin as well. [Name] laughed at her best friend while Yoongi and Taehyung watched. The war had begun.
Before it got too far, they were approached once more by the rest of the boys. Taehyung pounced on Jungkook, screaming the youngest's name. Jimin seemed to be teasing Hoseok about something while Namjoon and Jin shook their heads at the group. Why were they all friends? No one would ever know.
Everyone broke up into separate discussions, occasionally merging and separating again. The students passing by would stare at the group and continue on their journey, knowing that BTS was not exactly the calmest group. Ange and [Name] continued teasing each other about random things and eventually somehow getting to the topic of pineapple grenades. Yoongi watched [Name] animatedly explain how painful those would probably be. She threw up her hands and his eyes followed. The overwhelming urge to hug her again suddenly appeared. He wanted to feel that warmth once more. All of the boys were close, so casually throwing an arm around another's shoulder or randomly hugging someone was perfectly normal, even coming from Yoongi or Namjoon. [Name] and Ange, on the other hand, only recently joined them, so he worried about how [Name] would react if he did something. He could just watch her, couldn't he? If she showed any signs of discomfort, he'd move away and apologize. Jin and the others would probably tease him later, but he didn't care. He just really wanted that hug.
Yoongi walked up behind [Name] and slowly slipped his hands around her waist, holding his wrist in front of her. She tensed up for a moment, just like when he'd hugged her a few minutes ago, but quickly relaxed. She breathed out slowly and ever so slightly leaned back into Yoongi. He could practically feel Seokjin smirking from behind him, but he didn't care at the moment. The warmth was back. The feeling of safety and comfort took over again and Yoongi felt at ease, forgetting all the troubles of the world.
Ange watched the boy rest his chin on [Name]'s shoulder. She grinned at her friend. If Yoongi could see [Name]'s face, he'd see the bright red coloring it gained in the moment it took for him to pull her in again. There was no way Ange was going to let this go. No one got away with randomly hugging [Name], but here was Yoongi, getting away with it.
