Lucas's POV
"So where are we going loser?" Riley asks with a giant smile on her face. The day barely started, and she was already giddy and bouncing around in her seat.
"We're going on a date."
"Well, I can see that. I meant the exact location where we're going."
I pulled up to the red light and turned to look at her. She was looking out the window, looking at some random building before I grabbed her chin and turned her face towards me. In one swift movement, my lips were on hers.
I break the kiss off and say,"Don't worry about it, love."
Her cheeks flush crimson. "Well, when you put it like that..."
I grab her hand with my right hand and drive off when the light turns green.
"This better be worth my time, Friar."
"When is spending time with me, not a superb time," I boasted.
"Okay," she emphasized. "Don't act like you're that great."
"According to you the last time we-"
Before I could finish, she punched my arm and exclaimed," Don't you dare mention that!"
"Love, There is nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, I haven't seen already so might as well mention it," I admitted while smirking waiting for her reaction.
"Hmm, I guess I've seen everything too... Anyways how long is it going to take to get there?"
"About an hour," I informed. "Well, that's what the GPS is saying."
"What?" she nagged. "Where are we going?"
"I already told you, Riles. It's a secret till we get there."
"Ugh."
I chuckled. "It'll be okay. It'll all be worth it."
"I swear, Friar. It better be."
"Don't worry, hun."
I got onto the freeway and started driving towards La Jolla Beach. I have no clue what it looks like, but I did get some recommendations from some friends. I hope it's the perfect place to propose. I need this to be perfect. It can't be anything less. The day is going to seem like a normal beach date but it'll hopefully take a turn for the best.
---
"Riles," I whisper. "Riles, we're here." It was about 11am when we finally got the the place. I got lost for like fifteen minutes before I actually found the parking lot to the beach.
All she did was groan and turn over to a new position.
"Riles, get up please."
She groaned a bit more before saying no.
"Baby, please," I begged.
"No."
At that moment, instincts kicked in and I knew exactly what to say. "How about I strip down and take you here right now?" I whispered.
Her eyes flew open and she immediately took off her seatbelt and was out the car.
"Ahhh," She lightly shouted while stretching. "What a beautiful day."
"I thought so," I muttered a bit disappointed.
"Where are we?"
"La Jolla Beach."
"Where's that?"
Here we go again. More questions. I grab her hand and pull her into a hug.
"Somewhere in San Diego. Do you like it?"
"Yeah," She breathed out. "It seems like a nice place to have a date. Good job, Friar."
I chuckled before lifting her chin and lightly pecking her lips. "Thanks, love."
I opened that trunk of the car and took out the picnic basket and a blanket. Hand in hand, we walked a bit before choosing a place to lay the blanket down and sit.
"Ummm I brought sandwiches, fruit, wine, cheese and some juices. What do you want first?"
We ate and talked until late in the afternoon.
"Lucas, look!" She exclaimed.
The sun was finally setting. This whole time, my heart has been racing, waiting for the right moment and it finally arrived. She was too distracted by the sunset to notice me take out the little black box and get on one knee.
"Riley?"
"Yeah," she answered while trying to take the 'perfect' picture of a beach sunset.
"Riley, can you look at me?"
When she finally turned, her expression said everything. You could tell she was surprised but excited as if she was waiting for this to happen.
"Lucas... What's going on?"
"Riley, you have made me the happiest man to walk the earth. That's probably really corny to say, but it's true. These past few months without you were physically and emotionally draining but to have you here with me right now is all that matters."
"Lucas!"
"I can't think of a life without you, Riley Matthews. From the moment I saw you, I knew that we would have something unbreakable, something that'll last longer than a lifetime. I gave you my heart and now its time to give you my soul."
"LUCAS!"
"Riley Matthews, will you marry me?"
"YES, OH MY GOD YES. FINALLY, IT TOOK YOU TOO LONG."
I wasn't expecting that but I placed the ring on her finger and she jumped into my arms. This is the moment that I've was waiting for. The moment of complete and utter happiness while holding my soon-to-be wife while smiling like an idiot.
"Forever," I whispered.
"What?"
"Forever. I'll love you forever."
Her smile radiated happiness and she hugged me tighter before kissing me again.
The day was perfect.
