Imagine coming down with a cold and the dwarves don't know what's happened so they ask Gandalf who explains it to them but, for a bit of a laugh, also explains about pneumonia and other illnesses that have coughing and sneezing. They then become under the impression that you are dying and when Gandalf is asked to cure it he just says "it is not within my power to do so." You hate the attention you are getting but Gandalf is really enjoying the chaos he caused.
