TW: Questioning gender and transgender.
I'm sorry if the pronouns get confusing because I change them half way through. Hopefully it makes sense.
If I phrase anything wrong, please tell me! I'm actually quite worried I'm going to offend someone :/
Dan and Phil had a wonderful daughter called Charlie. She had long blonde hair which cascaded way past her shoulders and down to her hips. She didn't have many friends, just one which she told practically everything. Her friend's name was Rachel. Rachel was the best friend anyone could have because she kept secrets and was trustworthy. Charlie really liked Rachel, so much that she wanted to.. kiss the other girl.
They were at one of their weekly sleepovers, this time at Charlie's house. Dan and Phil were in the room next door to them so they were talking in hushed whispers. Charlie was wearing her usual attire: skinny jeans and a dull, boyish top. She had her hair tied up in a lazy ponytail and her face was its usual pale. "Rachel, can I tell you something?" Charlie whispered, wiping her sweaty hands on her trousers. She was afraid that what she was about to say to Rachel would ruin their friendship and that was the last thing she wanted. Rachel smiled in kindness and Charlie brushed her fringe away from her eyes. Charlie's stomach lurched and she had the sudden urge to be projectile vomit everywhere. She was lightheaded and her head was telling her not to say what she wanted to say. "I've been thinking a lot.." Rachel raised a confused eyebrow. "I'm a-" Charlie's breath hitched and she just couldn't get the word out.
"Charlie, are you okay?" Rachel asked, putting her hand onto Charlie's knee. Charlie immediately stiffened.
"I'm a-"
"You don't have to say it..." Rachel's face softened, making Charlie smile slightly.
"A boy."
"You're a... boy?"
"Yeah." Charlie choked out, her voice shaking.
"I love you so much." Rachel jumped forward and tackled her friend into a hug with a wide smile on her face. "You're the bestest friend ever! Do you want me to use different pronouns?"
"I don't want anyone to know yet but you.. you had to know."
"I love you." Rachel repeated. "Whether you're a boy, girl, neither or both."
-
"I want to tell my dads." Charlie whispered, a soft smile on his face. He was wearing skinny jeans and a boyish t-shirt, as usual.
"I think you should cut your hair.." Rachel mumbled, bringing her hand through her friend's hair and smiling as she did so. "It would suit you and it would make you look really handsome."
"Do you really think so?" Charlie's face had literally lit up at the thought of cutting his hair short. Secretly, he had thought about it but he didn't really want his parents to find out.
Rachel nodded.
-
"I love it!" Charlie squealed, staring at himself in the mirror with admiration in his eyes.
"I told you it would make you look handsome!" Rachel grinned, hugging her friend tightly. "Are you ready to tell your dads yet? Remember I will be right by your side."
"Okay." Charlie took a deep breath. "I'm ready."
Rachel reached out and grabbed Charlie's hand, squeezing it. "Let's do this." She mumbled before guiding her best friend into the living room where his parents were sitting.
"Dan, Phil?" Rachel started once she realised that Charlie wasn't about to start a conversation.
"Yes?" Dan turned, looking at his daughter with wide eyes. She no longer had pretty hair that cascaded past her shoulders.. it was short. As short as his and his husband's. "Are you alright? Charlie?"
"Dad I-" Charlie started before cutting himself off.
"Why did you cut your hair? It looks lovely." Phil said, sensing that the room was beginning to get rather awkward. "You look beautiful."
"Handsome." Rachel chipped in, squeezing Charlie's hand.
"Handsome?" Dan questioned.
"I'm not a girl, dad." Charlie mumbled, earning two gasps perfectly in sync. "I'm a boy."
"Oh.." Dan looked like he didn't know what to say so, instead, he hugged his son with a smile on his face. Phil and Rachel soon joined in the hug with equally large smiles on their faces.
"I love you, Charlie.. I always will. Even if you're a boy." Phil whispered, pulling back from the hug. "You're still our child."
-
Charlie let out a loud sob, a wide smile on his face. He and Rachel were sitting in his bedroom just after he had come out to his parents. "They accepted me.."
"They did, Charlie. I'm so happy for you." Charlie buried his head into Rachel's chest.
"Can I admit something?" Rachel nodded, a little confused. "I have a crush on you. I have done for a while." Charlie's voice was almost incoherent but Rachel definitely heard it because her cheeks went bright pink.
She swallowed before leaning forward and pressing her lips against Charlie's.
:)
I hope that was okay? If I messed anything up/offended anyone just tell me and I'll change it.
