–Kiara–

It was so sudden that I still can't believe what's happening. Thinking about it now, it all made sense.

My parents who were way too busy to call me and ask how I was, attended the birthday party of my best friend. Huh! They even bothered buying me a dress. So that's what's up.

As soon as Nathan walked out of the hall, I turned to ask my parents about the sudden engagement and their reasons shocked me more.

FLASHBACK:

Uncle Michael turned to us, more to Nathan. "Congratulations on your engagement!" He's as if expecting us to say anything in return but we didn't. I was so shocked to even speak and I bet Nathan is in the same state as me.

He cleared his throat and faced me. "Kiara dear, can I have a minute with my son? I'll just talk to you later." He gave me a reassuring smile.
"O-oh, okay U-uncle. P-please excuse me, I'll go and see my parents." I didn't wait for anyone of them to answer and turned my heel to where my parents are.

I found them talking to one of their business partners as if nothing happened. 'They should have looked for me first and explain to me what's going on! But here they are still talking about business! Ugh'

"Dad?" Mom noticed me first and gave me a nod then turned to Dad, maybe telling him I was asking for him. 'Will you look at that, he didn't realize that I'm calling him'

"Oh here you are Kiara. Follow me." He said that as if he knew very well what I'm trying to figure out.

The three of us walked to the west exit and entered a room. I think the room is for private meetings. There are two couch at the middle of the room, and a mini bar on the farthest side. He motioned me to sit down to a couch as both of my parents sat on the other side.

"You were shocked?" My dad said that more as a statement and not a question.

"W-why did you agree on this Dad? I can't marry him!" I know it's disrespectful to raise your voice to elders but this is just too much and I can't just sit and wait.

"Why not? Is he that hard to love? I thought you're friends?" My Dad seemed confused as his forehead creased more.

"That's the problem Dad! We're friends and I don't know if we can remain one after this! Gosh! He's been planning to propose to his girlfriend during prom!" I felt helpless but I continued.

"We are even helping him with the preparations. He has a long time girlfriend, Dad. You all know that!" They know. They've seen Stacy partnered with Nathan for almost every party in high society so I'm really confused as to why this is happening. I know Uncle Michael didn't have anything bad to say about her either as much to my dismay. Yes, i love him, but this is certainly not the way I want. I want him to love me voluntarily, not this!

My mom went to where I was seated and put her hands on my shoulder as if calming me down.

"We have our reasons, Kia. We need to help the Finiggans. Like you and your friends, we are friends with their parents too." My Mom hugged me, comforting me.
